The emergency call system control unit (N123/4) has its own microprocessor. It also has 2 sub-units, a telephone module and a navigation module. All the important data required for a Telematic Alarm Identification on Demand (emergency call system) (TELE AID) emergency call is processed centrally in the emergency call system control unit (N123/4). The emergency call system control unit (N123/4) uses the installed navigation module to calculate the vehicle position and, in the event of an emergency call, it generates an emergency call telegram in the form of a message via Short Message Service (SMS).

The crash data from the restraint systems control unit (N2/7) are received via a serial interface.

The emergency call system control unit (N123/4) can be diagnosed via the Controller Area Network (data bus/CAN bus) (CAN) diagnosis by the central gateway control unit (N93) using STAR DIAGNOSIS.
