Remove/install Lower Control Arm
CAUTION: See notes on self-locking nuts and bolts
DANGER:
- Lethal injuries are possible if vehicle slips off of lifting platform
- Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
1 Raise vehicle.
2 Remove front wheel
3 Take off bottom engine compartment panel at front
4 Remove headlight range control's linkage rod from lower control arm.
- When removing the right front halfshaft on vehicles with bi-xenon headlights.
5 Press track rod joint (10a) out of steering knuckle assembly.
6 Press supporting joint (7) from steering knuckle
7 Detach lower wishbone (4) from front axle
CAUTION: With repair kit installed: Do not turn carrier the repair bolt. When loosening and tightening the repair nut always hold the repair bolt in place, as the alignment studs for adjusting the caster will be sheared off if the bolt moves.
NOTE:
- Swivel the track rod (10) upward to install and remove the rear bolt.During this process the steering must be turned all the way to the left for access at the right lower control arm (4), and all the way to the right for the left lower control arm (4).
- Installation: Not installation position if repair bolts have already been installed.
- Install repair bolts and adjustment shims in their original positions.
CAUTION: Installation: Do not tighten nuts under vehicle is ready to roll.
8 Inspect lower control arm (4) for visible
- If damaged the lower control arm (4) must damage or distortion be replaced.
9 Check front hydraulic mount, rear bushing
- If damaged the lower control arm (4) must and support joint (7) be replaced.
10 Install in the reverse order
11 Perform chassis alignment check
- Only after installing new parts.
