In the event of an emergency call, all active telephone connections and active service calls (MB information calls or roadside assistance calls) are interrupted. The emergency call system control unit (N123/4) transmits an emergency call telegram to the nearest emergency call center, and, at the same time, it establishes a telephone connection to the emergency call center. If the emergency call was triggered automatically, but a telephone connection to the emergency call center could not be established, then a telephone connection is automatically established with the standard "911" emergency call number. In this case, no emergency call data are transmitted. The emergency call data must then be communicated verbally. This process can be configured for manual calls.
The emergency call system must be authorized to transmit an emergency call telegram.
Normally, the telephone connection is established through the telephone antenna (A2/22), which is on the roof of the vehicle. If there is a problem or fault with the telephone antenna (A2/22) (such as in the case of a vehicle rollover), there are two emergency antennas located in the rear bumper. These antennas are basically made up of the emergency call system antenna diplexer (A2/25), the emergency call system backup antenna on the left side (A2/54) and the emergency call system backup antenna on the right side (A2/55). The emergency call system control unit (N123/4) detects the failure of the roof antenna and automatically actuates the two emergency backup antennas.
