1 Completely move adjustable steering column out and downward

DANGER:
- CAUTION: Risk of explosion from gas Risk of poisoning and caustic burns from swallowing battery electrolyte Injury hazard and danger of burning skin and eyes when handling battery acid or handling damaged lead-acid batteries
- No fire, sparks, naked flames or smoking
- Wear acid protection gloves, clothes and goggles Pour battery electrolyte only into suitable and appropriately marked containers


2 Disconnect ground cable of battery
3 Remove glove compartment with side wall (8)

DANGER:
- Risk of injury when carrying out test or repair work on airbag or emergency tensioning retractor units
- Store airbag unit with expulsion area on top, do not subject to temperatures above 100 degrees C. Interrupt power supply when working on such units.


4 Remove Instrument panel (11)
5 Remove center reinforcement (9) with air ducts

DANGER:
- Injury Hazard Windshield wiper mechanism can pinch, crush or, in extreme cases even sever extremities.
- Always remove ignition key when working on windshield wiper mechanism.


6 Remove wiper system
7 Unscrew screw (14)
8 Remove jacket tube (15) from instrument panel carrier (10) and fold down into footwell

NOTE: Do not remove bottom steering shaft from steering coupling.

9 Open cable duct on instrument panel carrier (10)
10 Open all cable straps of leads on instrument panel carrier (10)
11 Expose leads
12 Unscrew screws (16)
13 Unscrew screws (17)
14 Unscrew nut (18)
15 Unscrew screw (19)
16 Unscrew nuts (20)
17 Remove instrument panel carrier (10)

CAUTION:
- Avoid damaging heater, AC housing and damage in passenger compartment.
- Installation: First position all screws and nuts, align instrument panel carrier (10).


18 Install in the reverse order
