The system operates automatically in the event of a crash! The system is activated manually by pressing the SOS pushbutton switch (S93/3). This can be the case in emergencies or if an accident is witnessed. Activation of the emergency call system is indicated by flashing of the red light emitting diode (LED) in the SOS pushbutton switch (S93/3). If a recall to the vehicle by the emergency call center is not be replied to, a search and rescue operation will be initiated in due course by the local rescue teams. If the emergency call system cannot establish a connection to the emergency call center or the Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) card has not been authorized, the system automatically calls the police emergency call number "911" and attempts to establish a hands-free connection. In this case no data are transmitted by Short Message Service (SMS).
SOS pushbutton switch (S93/3)
The SOS pushbutton switch (S93/3) is concealed by a safety flap with red writing on it. The flap is marked "SOS". By tipping on the safety flap, it is released and opens independently with the help of a spring mechanism. Pressing the SOS pushbutton switch (S93/3) for more than t = 0.5 seconds activates the system.
MB-Info and breakdown assistance button group (S93/6)
The MB-Info and breakdown assistance button group (S93/6) is in the center console next to the portable CTEL (A34/6). The system is activated by pressing a button in the MB-Info and breakdown assistance button group (S93/6) for more than t = 0.5 seconds. Activation of the system is indicated by a flashing LED in the button that was pressed.
If a button is pressed in the MB-Info and breakdown assistance button group (S93/6), an SMS is transmitted automatically. A voice connection to the service center is set up at the same time.
