Seat Backrest Cracking Noise
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of a cracking noise from the multi-contour seat backrest when in stop and go traffic or when cornering, this may be due to the rivet used to fasten the cross struts in place. To resolve, perform the below procedure.
1. Remove seat backrest cover. Refer to WIS document AR91.10-P-1910R.
2. Detach backrest seat cover to gain access to the rivets for the cross struts (Figure 1, Pos. 2).
3. Drill out the 8 rivet heads for the cross struts (Figure 1, Pos. 2) for multi-contour backrest control unit taking care not to damage the backrest frame.
4. Knock rivet ends into backrest using a pin punch. On the tunnel side the rivet ends fall into the interior, remove these rivet ends. On the door side, the rivet ends remain in the backrest, spray wax into the area where the rivet ends fall to prevent the rivet ends from rattling.
5. Fasten the cross struts with steel rivets, part number below.
6. Reattach backrest seat cover.
7. Reinstall backrest cover. Refer to WIS document AR91.10-P-1910R.
