VI - Crackling Noise In Area Around Mount For Front Lock Vario

VI.

Crackling noise in area around mount for front lock of Vario roof while driving

Cause:

Mount for locking hook too high; locking hook comes into contact with floor of mount (A-Figure 8).

Install spacer(s) with opening toward rear.

Do not replace the entire front lock of Vario roof with new parts.

1. Adjust mount.

When the Vario roof is locked, the locking hook (C-Figure 8) must be in the center of the mount and should not come into contact with the floor. It may be necessary to install several white shims (a maximum of 4) at the inner attachment point (B-Figure 8) to ensure that the locking hook is positioned correctly in the center of the mount.

The white shim(s) must be installed so that the opening points toward the rear (G-Figure 8).

Use white shims. Parts were modified and previous part no. maintained.

The transition from the Vario roof to the crossmember across the windshield is adjusted at the outer attachment point (F-Figure 8) of the mount.

2. If the correct position is not achieved with a maximum of 4 shims, also remove a washer (D-Figure 8) from lock at inner attachment point (B-Figure 8).

3. Clean the locking pin (E-Figure 8) and the mount using rags. Apply lubricant to entire length of locking pin (E-Figure 8).

Note:
The procedures shown in this bulletin are VIN number specific.
