X. Water Leak at Seal End of Attachment Area of C-Pillar and Rear Window

X. Water ingress into seal at end of plug-in area for C-pillar to rear window

Cause 1:





Opening (B-Figure 25) in inner C-pillar seal (B-Figure 25).

Procedure:

Plug opening (B-Figure 25).

1. Perform rain test.

2. Move Vario roof to intermediate position and secure (See WIS-document AR77.50-P-3000-01R).

Use Special Tool "Support".

3. Remove C-pillar paneling from Vario roof (See WIS-document AR68.30-P-4500R).

4. Loosen nut (A-Figure 25).

5. Pull out seal.

6. Plug opening (B-Figure 25) in seal with butyl tape.

Do not remove butyl tape from foil, this allows seal to slide into installation position more easily. Use 12 x 1.5 mm butyl strip

7. Install in the reverse order.

8. Perform leakage test.

Cause 2:





Cover plate to C-pillar upper section (C-Figure 26) leaky.

Procedure:

Reseal cover plate to C-pillar upper section (C-Figure 26).

1. Perform rain test.

2. Move Vario roof to intermediate position and secure (See WIS-document AR77.50-P-3000-01R).

Use Special Tool "Support".

3. Remove cover, cover carrier, and cover plate.

Remove glue residues.





4. Position butyl tape half over C-pillar corner and press down toward inside. (Figure 27). Use 12 x 1.5 mm butyl strip.

5. Glue cover plate onto C-pillar.

Clean gluing surface on C-pillar with window cleaning agent.

Always replace cover plate.





6. Position butyl tape along edge of cover plate (Figure 28).

^ Use 12 x 1.5 mm butyl strip.

^ Length of butyl tape approx. 0.1 m.

7. Position seal on cover plate and press on.





8. Seal cover plate to C-pillar (Figure 29). Use MB universal sealant.

Smooth bead of glue.

9. Install in the reverse order.

10. Perform leakage test.
