Component Identification:
Fiber optic cables are given new consecutive numbers after installation of a new ring subscriber (note information flow).
Supplementing D2B ring wiring harness:
1 Disconnect connector housing from radio (A2) or COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3).
2 Unlock connector housing and remove white (ws) insert from connector housing on radio (A2) or COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) (no longer required).
3 Insert new (M1) fiber optical cable with white (ws) insert into connector housing on radio (A2) or COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) and lock housing.
Observe special routing guidelines for fiber optic cables.
4 Insert red (rt) insert from new (M1) fiber optical cable module into new connector housing on CD player with changer (A2/6). Insert white (ws) insert from new (M2) fiber optical cable module into new connector housing on CD player with changer (A2/6) and lock connector housing.
The telephone interface (A34/4) (with code 852 complete portable CTEL preinstallation on dome or code 854 MB portable CTEL) or D2B telephone transmitter/receiver (A35/13) (with code 853) MB standard telephone or TELE AID control unit (A35/8) (with code 855 TELE AID) can represent the next ring component and are called "next ring component" in the following.
5 Remove connector housing from next ring component and unlock.
6 Remove red (rt) insert from old (M1) fiber optical cable module (no longer required).
7 Insert red (rt) insert from new (M2) fiber optical cable module into old connector housing on next ring component and lock connector housing.
8 Reconnect connector housing to next ring component.
Length M1 (new) = 2230 mm
Length M2 (new) = 610 mm
9 Route (M1) fiber optical cable module (new) from radio (A2) or COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) to shift gate through opening on noise insulation (arrow) and below ventilation duct.
10 Route (M1) fiber optical cable module (new) at right on shift gate along present lines and continue on center duct to rear and fasten.
11 Route fiber optical cable modules (M1, M2 and M3) in vehicle as shown in figure and fasten fiber optical cable modules (M1, M2) starting at connector housing for CD player with changer (A2/6) according to dimensions using insulating tape.
Insulation must end 50 mm in front of the connector housing. The fiber optic cable modules (M1, M2) should be routed below the control unit carrier (arrow).
12 Connect connector housing to CD player with changer (A2/6).
