SRS Indicator Lamp On
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles that the SRS light is illuminated and diagnostic fault code(s) B9223 and/or B9243 are stored in the SRS ECU, the resistance of the ignition squib circuit for the sidebag may be too high. This high resistance may be caused by a malfunctioning connector in the driver's seat connector block (X55/3) and/or passenger's seat connector block (X55/4). To resolve, replace the malfunctioning connectors with a repair kit per the below procedure.
Note:
It is necessary to replace both the driver and passenger side airbag connectors.
1. Remove ignition key.
2. Remove front seats, as per WIS document AR91.10-P-1000T.
3. Position seats on a suitable working surface.
4. Replace connector, based upon the production dates listed below.
Note:
Wiring diagram of airbag control unit with integrated emergency call system can be found in the following WEB ETM document: 91.60-U-2101DA.
Procedure for Model 211.0 up to 28.2.03
a) Release lock on connector for driver seat connector block (X55/3) and front passenger connector block (X55/4), (Figure 1, arrow) and disconnect coupling (Figure 1, 1).
b) Release lock on plug (Figure 1, 2) to the side upwards.
c) Cut electrical wires approximately 10 mm in front of and behind connector.
d) Carefully remove approximately 50 mm fabric tape.
e) Strip approximately 15 mm of insulation from the electrical wires.
f) Slide solder connector onto electrical wires.
g) Twist bared electrical wires with wire ends from repair kit.
h) Position solder connection in center of twisted wires and shrink with heat gun (solder).
^ Utilize wiring harness repair set 220 589 02 99 00 and heat gun 458-HL1802E via the MBUSA Standard Service Equipment Program.
i) Check solder connections.
j) Wrap fabric tape around electrical wires on both sides.
k) Fasten repair kit (Figure 1, 3) to housing with tie strap
l) Delete fault memory with STAR DIAGNOSIS.
m) Install in the reverse order.
Procedure for Model 211.0/2 as of 1.3.03
a) Remove contacts from Micro Quadlock System plug. Refer to WIS document AR00.19-P-0120-03A.
b) Remove contacts from Micro Quadlock System coupling. Refer to WIS document AR00.19-P-0120-04A.
c) Remove fabric tape from seat side of electrical wires from plug (Figure 2, 3) up to jacketing.
d) Unpin both contact pins for electrical wires (Figure 2, arrow) from plug (Figure 2, 3) (see table).
e) Cut electrical wires approximately 10 mm behind contact pin.
f) Strip approximately 15 mm of insulation from electrical wires.
g) Slide solder connector onto electrical wires.
h) Twist bared electrical wires with wire ends from repair kit.
i) Position solder connection in center of twisted wires and shrink with heat gun (solder).
^ Utilize wiring harness repair set 220 589 02 99 00 and heat gun 458-HL1802E via the MBUSA Standard Service Equipment Program
j) Check solder connections.
k) Wrap fabric tape around electrical wires.
l) Fasten plug from repair kit (Figure 2, 5) to electrical wires with tie strap.
m) Perform same work on coupling (Figure 2, 4) in vehicle interior. For this purpose, unpin contact sockets from chambers 9 and 11 and replace coupling from repair kit.
Note:
Ensure proper engagement when assembling electrical connector for driver seat connector block (X55/3) or front passenger seat connector block (X55/4).
Note:
Ensure that electrical lines do not become damaged when installing seat(s).
n) Delete fault memory with STAR DIAGNOSIS.
o) Install in the reverse order.
