ABS or ESP Event Code(s) Stored in ESP (Electronic Stability Program) or SBC

(Sensotronic Brake Control) System

Note:
For Information Only

Beginning with the introduction of the Sensotronic Brake Control system version SBC 1.2 (approximately mid 2004), the SBC and ESP control module have the capability to record and display Event Codes apart from traditional Fault Codes. If an Event Code has been stored, it will be displayed during a conventional STAR Diagnosis Short Test.

An Event Code is stored in either the SBC or ESP control module, if an ABS or ESP control/action has taken place (i.e. event). The SBC or ESP control modules then merely records these activities and labels them as Event Codes. The entry of an Event Code takes place without the customer/driver noticing, thus no audible or visual displays are provided. An example of an Event Code with corresponding Freeze Frame data can be seen below in Figure 1.

Note:
An event code does NOT indicate in any way that a fault or a malfunction is present within the ESP or SBC system. Event Codes can be ignored and erased.
