The warning threshold for the remaining distance serves to determine the mileage at which the vehicle user is informed, with an appropriate warning, at the earliest, before reaching the service date calculated by the ASSYST PLUS.
The warning threshold for the remaining distance is primarily decisive for the service warning if the remaining distance reaches the service warning threshold before the remaining time. The ASSYST system takes the engine oil quality into consideration in calculating the next service date.
The warning threshold for ASSYST PLUS is stored in the central gateway control unit (N93) and can be set with STAR DIAGNOSIS.

The following driving conditions are taken into consideration:
- Cold starts
- Engine speeds
- Short-distance trips
- Oil refillings

Under favorable operating conditions, the driver is given a quantity rebate, which extends remaining distance and, therefore, the service interval.Whether the vehicle is actually being driven or whether the engine is idling is also taken into consideration. In order to achieve this, ASSYST is continuously provided with data regarding the vehicle's current operating conditions. In the event of optimum evaluation, only 0.6 km are calculated for each kilometer covered.

If the evaluation of the operating conditions is unfavorable (e.g. frequent short trips, many cold starts), the remaining mileage and, therefore, the service interval, are smaller than under favorable conditions (assuming same quality factors).
In the event of the most unfavorable evaluation, up to 3 km are calculated for each kilometer covered.

Display of remaining distance
This is displayed corresponding to the setting in kilometers or miles in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1):
- At the request of the driver.
- Automatically, after reaching the warning threshold, after the electronic ignition switch control unit (N73) has been set to position "Circuit 15 ON" or the engine has been started: The service symbol and the display "Service X in xxxx km" appears for t = 10 s.
- Automatically, after the remaining distance has been covered, after the electronic ignition switch control unit (N73) has been set to position "Circuit 15 ON" or the engine has been started: The service symbol and display "Perform service X" appears for t = 10 s.
- Automatically, before and after exceeding the remaining distance by more than 100 km, after the electronic ignition switch control unit (N73) has been set to position "Circuit 15 ON" or the engine has been started: The service symbol and display "Service X overdrawn by xxxx km" appears for t = 10 s. In addition, a warning tone is output.

The remaining distance is displayed as standard. However, so that the attention of drivers of vehicles with low annual mileage is also drawn to a due service, the time information is also always processed in the background.
The remaining distance is compared with the remaining time on a daily basis. Under certain preconditions the display changes over and the remaining time is displayed.

If ASSYST is missing measurement values, e.g. due to the failure of a sensor, substitute values stored in the control units are used. A corresponding entry is made in the fault memory of the central gateway control unit (N93).
