Task
The TPM switch switches the cruise control functions, the Distronic (if Distronic is installed) and the variable speed limit (except for model 211 (United State of America)) on and off.

Function
When the cruise control pushbutton switch is operated, two switching contacts are always activated simultaneously. The actual input takes place by closing the switching contacts (storing the speed). The safety contact must close simultaneously so that the input is accepted.

The shift signals from the TPM switch are detected by the steering column module and sent over the CAN data bus.

The CDI control unit (N3/9) analyzes the shift signals for cruise control operation and the variable speed limit (except for model 211 (United State of America)).
For a Distronic the DTR control unit (N63/1 up to 06/04 or A89n1 airbag 07/04) analyzes the shift signals for Distronic operation.
