GF82.85-P-2006TA Switch On/Off Behavior, Function

GF82.85-P-2006TA Switch On/Off Behavior, Function
- with CODE (527) Navigation module for COMAND

When the driver door is opened, the navigation processor (N41/1) is activated automatically, first via the Controller Area Network bus class B (interior) (CAN-B) and then via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) ring. This procedure takes approximately t = 2 seconds and may be accompanied by barely audible noise from the CD-ROM drive integrated in the navigation processor (N41/1). The display of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) remains switched off. If no status change in "Circ.15C" or "Circ. 15R ON" occurs at the electronic ignition switch control unit (N73), the navigation processor (N41/1) remains activated for t = 30 min. This is followed by an automatic cutout.

Activating the overall system
Position 1:
When the transmitter key (A8/1) is inserted in the electronic ignition switch control unit (N73), i.e. "Circ. 15C ON".

In this position, only the bus systems are activated for t = 3 min in order to speed up the switch-on procedure.
If the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is switched on using the "ON button (ON/OFF)", the automatic shut-off occurs after t = 30 min.

Position 2:
Turning the transmitter key (A8/1) in the electronic ignition switch control unit (N73) to position 1 "Circ. 15R ON" switches the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) on, provided that it was on before the transmitter key (A8/1) was last removed. It remains in operation until the transmitter key (A8/1) is removed again.

The function options are restricted to:
^ Operation of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3)
^ Multifunction display (A1p13) in the instrument cluster (A1)
^ Operated via left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)

Position 3:
Turning the transmitter key (A8/1) further in the electronic ignition switch control unit (N73) to position 2 "Circ. 15 ON" makes all the functions in the vehicle operational. The system which was active before it was last switched off (e.g. radio) is switched on and the corresponding basic menu is displayed. If the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) was switched off for longer than t = 30 minutes, a warning menu with general information on the use of the system appears.

Position 4:
The engine is started by turning the transmitter key (A8/1) in the EIS control unit (N73) to position 3, "circuit 15X ON".

If a considerable voltage drop occurs during the engine start, the system switches itself off for this time and is switched on again when the on-board electrical system has stabilized.

Characteristics when operating the ON/OFF button
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) can also be switched on with the transmitter key (A8/1) removed by pressing the "ON button (ON/OFF)" on the rotary switch. All MOST functions are then available for 30 minutes. The system switches off automatically once 30 minutes have elapsed. If a shut-off has taken place after t = 30 min, the system can be switched on again by pressing the "ON button (ON/OFF)". The cycle of 30 minutes then starts from the beginning.

Switching-off characteristics via AUTO-ON
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) switches to the "AUTO-ON" function state if it has been "awakened" by a MOST subscriber (e.g. telephone call or SMS).

In this case the function status that the system was in prior to the wake- up is stored. When the functions or user instructions the were initiated by the wake-up have completed, the system statu prior to the arrival of the wake-up signal is reinstated. The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) does not accept display requests from the other MOST subscribers in the "AUTO-ON" function status, nor does it awake these subscribers. Switching off takes place either via the "ON button (ON/OFF)" or by removing the transmitter key "Circ. 15C OFF". An active phone call is not interrupted by removing the transmitter key (A8/1). In this case the MOST will switch itself off.

Switch off characteristics
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is switched off using the "ON button (ON/OFF)" or by removing the transmitter key (A8/1) from the electronic ignition switch control unit (N73)"Circ. 15C OFF".

When the MOST is shut down, the defined navigation system after run time of t = 30 min starts (standby mode). During this period all the important locating parameters are stored. Furthermore, the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) and audio gateway control unit (N93/1) are always in standby mode when CAN-B (interior) is active.

Switch off characteristics at undervoltage
The central computer of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) constantly monitors battery voltage. Depending on the voltage value the system will act as follows:
^ The battery voltage is 9.5 to 11.5 V (battery warning range): If the battery voltage drops below 11.5 V, a message appears in the display requesting an engine start.
^ If the engine is not started, another warning appears after t = 3 min saying that approximately t =10 seconds remain to start the engine before the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) shuts off. In this case switching on the engine prevents the system from being automatically shut down. However, if the system has shut off and the voltage increases to more then 11.5 V again, the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) does not switch itself on again.
^ If a system has been shut down it can be switched back on again manually. The warning procedure recurs each time anew until the fault has been rectified.

Battery voltage below 9.5 V (undervoltage)
^ The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is automatically put into a defined standby condition in which only the battery voltage is monitored. In addition to this the current operating status is stored. The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) cannot be operated or accessed using STAR DIAGNOSIS when it is in this condition. Communication with external components does not take place.

Procedure for switching on and off in vehicles with code (889) Keyless Go
If the vehicle is started or stopped using the Keyless Go system, the procedure for switching on and off is identical with the procedure for restarting using the transmitter key (A8/1) "Circ. 15 ON/OFF".
