GF82.85-P-2011RI TV-Mode, Function

GF82.85-P-2011RI TV-mode, Function
- with CODE (863) Digital/analog TV tuner

Function requirements
^ "Circuit 15 ON" status
^ COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) activated via "ON" button
^ Menu item "TV" selected
^ TV-antenna signals available

General
The TV combination tuner (analog/digital) (A90/1), with code (863) Digital/analog TV tuner, makes it possible to receive analog as well as digital television channels in the vehicle and watch them on the display of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.

Analog and digital TV signals are received over the same antenna structures. The function is therefore described together. However it should be observed that the TV combination tuner separates the video signals and audio signals from each other. The TV mode is therefore comprised as follows:
^ Function sequence, TV signal reception
^ Function sequence, video signal
^ Function sequence, audio signal
^ Supplemental information

Operating instructions
The TV functions can be selected, activated and adjusted with the control buttons of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit or via the left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110), or right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111).

Function sequence, TV signal reception
The antenna signals for the TV reception are forwarded to the TV combination tuner in the following two ways:
- TV 1 antenna and TV 2 antenna
- Direct line
- Left antenna amplifier module (A2/64)
- Direct line

- TV 3 antenna and TV 4 antenna
- Direct line
- Right antenna amplifier module (A2/65)
- Direct line

Function sequence, video signal
After the TV signals have been processed in the TV combination tuner, the video signals are output as follows:
- Direct Y/C line
- COMAND operating, display and controller unit

Function sequence, audio signal
After the TV signals have been processed in the TV combination tuner, the audio signals in vehicles with code (810) Sound system, are routed via Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit, from there to the amplifier for sound system (N40/3), and then via direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left door speaker group (H4/1)
- Right door speaker group (H4/2)
- Left rear speaker (H4/7)
- Right rear speaker (H4/8)
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
- Subwoofer speaker (H4/29)

The audio signal for the subwoofer speaker travels from the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via MOST to the amplifier for sound system and from there, via direct lines over the subwoofer amplifier (N40/9) and then to the subwoofer speaker.

On vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the audio signals and data are output by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit over direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left door speaker group
- Right door speaker group
- Left rear speaker
- Right rear speaker

Supplemental information
The supplemental information is subdivided into the following categories:
^ TV reception
^ Additional functions

TV reception
TV reception is subdivided into 2 subcategories:
- Analog TV reception
- Digital TV reception

Analog TV reception
The TV tuner receives and processes terrestrial analog television programs, which have been broadcast in all standards. The audio quality is limited to "MONO". The TV system operates with a total of 3 reception modules for video and audio signals. The PLL tuners used cover a reception range of 30 to 866 MHz. The TV combination tuner supports reception of the "PAL/SECAM" and "NTSC" TV standards. The TV combination tuner has 4 antenna inputs for the TV signals from the various antenna amplifier modules. The antennas are not assigned to any particular tuner, but rather can be used by each tuner in identical manner.

Digital TV reception
In addition to analog television stations, it is also possible to receive terrestrial television stations broadcasting digital signals with the antenna structures already present. The Digital Video Broadcasting Terrestrial (DVB-T) standard is supported. In contrast to analog TV, the audio can be received in stereo here. Switch over from analog to digital TV reception is accomplished by the TV combination tuner automatically, depending on the current reception status. It is not possible for users to switch over themselves. However, switchover between alternative channels as well as between analog and digital reception can be prevented with the "Fix channel" control function. If stations with matching stations names are received (e.g. ARD analog and digital), only one entry is made in the list of stations.

DVB-T allows more programs to be received in better quality with a common antenna, including portable, depending on the reception.

Additional functions
The TV combination tuner provides the following features:
- Video text (pages: 100 to 899)
- Station list of channels momentarily receivable
- Digital image storage
- Last settings
- National settings

Videotext function
Some stations, primarily in central Europe, offer videotext in addition to their television program. For this purpose, the TV combination tuner is equipped with a separate video text decoder. Only videotext broadcast with Latin ASCII characters are supported, i.e. Greek or Cyrillic characters are not supported.
