Component Identification:

Start engine

Function prerequisites
^ The transmitter key (A8/1) is located in the vehicle interior.
^ The selector lever is in position "P" or "N" (on vehicles with code (494) USA version only in position "P")
^ Service brake applied.

Function
If the Keyless Go start/stop button (S2/3) is pressed on the selector lever, a signal is transmitted to the Keyless Go control unit via a discrete line.N69/5 It requests the transmitter key to transmit its drive authorization code via the center console Keyless Go antenna A8/1A2.
This drive authorization code is received by the right antenna amplifier module (A2/65) and is relayed to the EIS control unit via the overhead control panel control unit N70N73

If the drive authorization code is valid, circuit 15R and circuit 15 are switched on, if they are not already on, and the engine is started by the ME-SFI control unit (N3/10)

When the Keyless Go start/stop button S2/3 is pressed without actuating the service brake, circuit 15R is switched on first and, by actuating again, circuit 15.
Actuating once more switches off both circuits. If the driver door is closed, circuit 15C remains switched on approx. 30 minutes.

Messages
If a transmitter key A8/1 is not recognized in the interior compartment when starting, the instrument cluster indicates "Key not recognized" and the start attempt is interrupted. A1 If the selector lever is not in the corresponding position when an attempt is made to start, the instrument cluster indicates "Selector lever to P or N".

The position of the transmitter key is not checked

Function
If the Keyless Go start/stop button (S2/3) is pressed on the selector lever, the signal "Switch off engine" is transmitted to the Keyless Go control unit via a discrete line.N69/5This signal is relayed by the Keyless Go control unit (N69/5) via the EIS control unit (N73) to the ME-SFI control unit (N3/10), the engine is switched off.

Circuit 15R remains activated until the driver door is opened, however, only for a maximum of 30 min. When the driver door is opened, the ignition is switched off completely.

Messages
If a door is opened when the engine is running and the vehicle is standing still, the EIS control unit checks the key when restarting N73.
A8/1 If no transmitter key is recognized in the interior compartment, the following note appears in the instrument cluster (A1): "Key not recognized".
If the selector lever is not in position "P" or "N" when an attempt is Circuit 15R remains activated until the driver door is opened, however, only for a maximum of 30 min. When the driver door is opened, the ignition is switched off completely.
