GF82.85-P-2006RM Switch On/Off Behavior, Function

GF82.85-P-2006RM Switch On/Off Behavior, Function
- with CODE (527) COMAND APS (with navigation)

Activating navigation
The navigation system is activated automatically via the class B (interior) controller area network bus (CAN-B) when the driver door is opened. If the navigation digital versatile disk (DVD) is inserted, this process may be accompanied by faintly audible noises from the DVD drive integrated in the navigation processor (N41/1). The display of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) remains switched off. If, as a result of this, no status change occurs at the EIS [EZS] control unit (N73) e.g. "circuit 15C" or "circuit 15R ON", the navigation system remains activated for t = 30 minutes.

Activation of entire system
All other subsystems are activated when the transmitter key (A8/1) is inserted into the EIS [EZS] control unit (N73) in position 0 (circuit 15C).

The display is switched on in position 1 (circuit 15R ON) of the transmitter key (A8/1). This is providing that the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) was switched on before the transmitter key (A8/1) was last removed.
The system which was active before it was last switched off (e.g. radio tuner) is switched on and the corresponding basic menu is displayed. If the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) was switched off for more than 30 minutes, then a message appears with general information about how to use the system.

Conduct when pushing "ON" button
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) can also be switched on when the transmitter key (A8/1) is removed by pressing the "ON" button. All functions are then available for 30 minutes.

When 30 minutes has elapsed, the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) switches itself off automatically. If switching off has occurred after t = 30 minutes, the system can be switched on again by pressing the "ON" button; thus, the 30-minute run-on time starts again.

The position map is displayed again following the last navigation (destination reached) operation. After 1 minute of run-on time has elapsed, the unit switches itself off.

Switch off characteristics
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is switched off when the transmitter key (A8/1) is removed "circuit 15C OFF". The navigation system run-on time of t = 30 min starts (standby mode). During the run-on time, all the important locating parameters are stored. The run-on time of the audio systems can be adjusted and is set during the installation of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) in the plant. Moreover the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is always in "standby" when CAN-B is active.

Switch off characteristics at undervoltage
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) constantly monitors battery voltage. Depending on the voltage value the system will act as follows:
If the battery voltage decreases below 11.5 V (battery warning range), a message appears in the display of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3), which requests that the engine be started. If the engine is not started up, yet another warning is issued after 3 minutes have elapsed indicating that only 10 s remain to switch the engine on before the system is run down. In this case switching on the engine prevents the system from being automatically shut down. If the system has shut off and the voltage increases to more than 11.5 V again, the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) does not switch itself on again automatically.

If a system has been shut down it can still be switched back on again manually. The warning procedure then ensues for as long as the fault is not eliminated.

Battery voltage below 9.5 V (undervoltage)
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is automatically put into a defined standby condition, in which only the battery voltage continues to be monitored. In addition to this the current operating status is stored. The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) cannot be operated or accessed using STAR DIAGNOSIS when it is in this condition.
Communication with external components does not take place.

Exceptions to switch-off behavior (run-on mode) if destination not reached:
^ Navigation remains active for up to t = 30 min (e.g., refueling stop). The navigation continues once the vehicle is restarted.
^ After t = 30 min up to a max. of 2 h, the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) remains in "sleep mode". The route is calculated again after the vehicle is restarted and the navigation continues.
^ After t = 2 hours have elapsed, a request is displayed when the vehicle is restarted asking if the route is to be calculated again.
"YES" = Route is calculated again.
"NO" = Navigation will cease.
