Water Pump: Service and Repair
Remove, install coolant pump
Bolt assignment of Coolant Pump:
DANGER:
- Risk of injury to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolant spray. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant.
- Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 degrees C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage bottles.
- Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and eye protection.
1 Drain coolant at radiator
2 Unclip cover at front end of engine
3 Detach bracket (1)
NOTE: Place to the side with lines connected.
4 Remove coolant temperature sensor (B11/4)
NOTE:
- Use a screwdriver to press out retaining clamp (11).
- Installation: Install new O-ring.
5 Slacken bolts (2) of belt pulley (3)
NOTE: Installation: Tighten bolts
6 Remove poly V-belt
7 Detach the gas-operated spring (5) from the coolant pump (4) and turn it to the side
8 Detach the belt pulley (3) of the coolant pump (4)
NOTE: Installation: Screw in bolts (2) only by hand, do not tighten.
9 Dismount guide pulley (6)
NOTE: Lever off the cover (6a) with a screwdriver, remove the screw (4h).
10 Detach coolant hoses (7, 8)
CAUTION: Check condition of coolant hoses (7, 8) and hose clamps, replace if necessary.
11 Disconnect coolant hose (9) from oil-water heat exchanger
CAUTION: Check condition of coolant hose (9) and hose clamp, replace if necessary.
12 Detach and remove the coolant pump (4) from the timing case cover
CAUTION: Installation: Replace the gasket (4a).
13 Install in the reverse order
DANGER:
- Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury as working around the engine during start-up or while running may result in contusions and burns
- Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving.
- Wear closed and tight-fitting work clothes.
- Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.
14 Inspect cooling system for leaks.
