Applying excessive force while removing the tab can crack or break the plastic housing.
Do not use excessive force when removing the tab from the housing.
2. Insert the included microswitch (Figure 2) for the trunk lid lock into the cavity in the left side of the housing.
3. Cut off a 1,900 mm length of brown wire.
4. Strip off 1/4 inch insulation from the ends of the brown wire.
5. Crimp one of the three included pins (A, Figure 3) onto one of the stripped-off ends of the brown wire.
6. Crimp the ground connector (B, Figure 3) onto the other stripped-off end of the brown wire.
7. Cut off a 2,200 mm length of black wire.
8. Strip off 1/4 inch insulation from the ends of the black wire.
9. Crimp the remaining two included pins onto the stripped-off ends of the black wire (C, Figure 3).
10. Unlock the crimp lock (Figure 4) of the included connector for the trunk lock microswitch.
11. Insert the pin (A, Figure 3) of the brown wire into pin "1" (A, Figure 5) of the included connector for the trunk lock microswitch.
12. Insert a pin (C, Figure 3) of the black wire into pin "2" (B, Figure 5) of the included connector for the trunk lock microswitch.
13. Lock the connector crimp lock.
14. Wrap the brown wire and black wire together with the included electrical tape starting 30 mm (A, Figure 6) from the connector (B, Figure 6) for the trunk lid microswitch and back 1,600 mm (C, Figure 6).
15. Connect the new wiring harness (B, Figure 6) to the microswitch (Figure 2) in the housing for the trunk lid lock (Figure 7).

C. Function Testing and Final Assembly
1. Verify proper trunk operation per the following checklist:
^ With the trunk lid lock tumbler in the locked position (A, Figure 14), verify the trunk will not open when:
> Actuating the switch on the driver's side door panel
> Pressing the trunk lid button on the license plate recess
> Pressing the trunk button on the SmartKey
^ With the trunk lid lock tumbler in the neutral position (B, Figure 14), verify the trunk will open when:
> Actuating the switch on the driver's side door panel
> Pressing the trunk lid button on the license plate recess
> Pressing the trunk button on the SmartKey
^ With the trunk locked or unlocked, verify the trunk will open when:
> Pressing the trunk lid emergency release switch
2. Check the DTC memory of all installed components and components in the trunk. Identify and investigate any present DTCs. Correct the source of the DTCs. Clear the DTC memory.
Note:
Powering up the newly installed system prior to version coding will set errors. Ignore these errors during the initial DTC check. If the DTCs return after clearing, a configuration error is present. Locate and correct the error.
3. Confirm no new DTCs are present in components in the trunk.
4. Reinstall the plastic cover (Figure 10) rear of the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module.
5. Reinstall the trunk interior paneling on the left side.
^ See WIS document AR68.30-P-4800T, Remove/install side paneling in trunk"
6. Reinstall the paneling on the trunk lid exterior.
^ See WIS document AR88.50-P-5080TA, Remove/install outer paneling on trunk lid"
7. Reinstall the trunk lid paneling on the trunk lid interior.
^ See WIS document AR68.30-P-8150T, Remove/install trunk lid trim"
8. Reinstall the paneling from the left side hinge bracket for the trunk lid.
^ See WIS document AR88.50-P-5120T, Remove/install hinge lever for trunk lid"
