Crackling and Static Noises from Speakers When Radio Is On

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of crackling and static noises from the speakers when radio is on, this may be caused by bad grounding of the Audio Gateway (AGW). Please check the ground connection from the AGW housing to the vehicle's ground connection by following the below instructions.

Note:
Do not replace the AGW unless the following is checked first!

1. Unplug connector 2 from the AGW (voltage supply and ground).

2. Measure the resistance between the AGWs housing and the vehicle's body ground.

Note:
The resistance (measured using a multimeter) must be 0~ (Ohm). If resistance is more than ~1 (Ohm), the paint on the frame of the AGW and on the plate at which the frame is attached to the vehicle's body is acting as an insulator. In this case, proceed to step 3.

3. Remove the AGW. Refer to WIS document AR82.60-P-7605T (Model 211.0) or AR82.60-P-7605TA (Model 211.2).

4. Replace the AGW bracket with a Zinc coated AGW bracket, part no. A211 6545 86 40 / 87 40.

5. Remove insulation (paint) from the surface where the frame from the AGW is attached (Figure 3 or 4).

6. Install AGW. Refer to WIS document AR82.60-P-7605T (Model 211.0) or AR82.60-P-7605TA (Model 211.2).

7. Check the ground connection of the AGWs housing to the vehicle's ground.
