GF00.20-P-3009T Brake Lining Wear Calculation, Function
- MODEL 211.0 /2 up to 31.5.05
General
The data required for brake lining wear calculation is transferred via the Controller Area Network bus, Class B (interior) (CAN B) to the brake algorithm module in the central gateway control unit (N93).
Data on the brake actuation and the speed of the vehicle is not required.
The brake lining on the left front axle is measured by the left front brake pad contact sensor (S10/1) (50 % sensor).
The brake lining wear calculation feature integrated into the ASSYST PLUS system performs its function independently but is directly associated with the ASSYST PLUS with respect to the service situation.
Events started via the instrument cluster (A1) or via STAR DIAGNOSIS, in context with service confirmation or service reset, are primarily managed by ASSYST PLUS, however, are also included parallel in calculations of the brake algorithm. The following data from the CAN-B is required:
- Terminal status 15
- Brake wear via left front brake pad contact sensor (S10/1)
- Total odometer reading (km)
Function
Until the left front brake pad contact sensor (S10/1) is triggered, the brake wear is not taken into account in the service calculation via ASSYST PLUS.
If the check point of the left front brake pad contact sensor (S10/1) has been reached, the end of wear of the brakes is determined once as a fixed kilometer value via the brake lining wear calculation.
If the calculation takes place now, the ASSYST PLUS result is passed on to the service calculation.
If the brake lining wears more rapidly than expected after the check point, brake service is requested on the multifunction display (A1p13) when reaching the warning point.
For this purpose, the right front brake pad contact sensor (S10/2), which is designed as a 100 % sensor, transfers a signal to the SBC control module (A7/3n1) integrated into the SBC hydraulic unit (A7/3) and sends a message to the Controller Area Network bus, Class C (engine compartment ) (CAN C).
The data provided by the brake lining wear calculation can be read out via STAR DIAGNOSIS. The basic parameters used for calculation in the brake lining wear calculation can also be set with the STAR DIAGNOSIS so that the brake algorithm can be adapted specifically to different vehicles or brake lining thicknesses.
