INSPECT TRANSMISSION PILOT BUSHING AT ELECTROHYDRAULIC UNIT AND REPLACE IF NECESSARY
This service campaign has been initiated because DCAG has determined that on affected vehicles with 722.6 automatic transmissions (see VIN range on the following pages) the transmission pilot bushing may have been installed on the control units with non-tempered sealing rings which may cause a small leak to occur. Dealer will inspect the pilot bushing for a color marking and replace if necessary.
Operation codes for the removal and re-installation of the underbody paneling are now included in the work procedure and may be claimed under this service campaign whenever the repair is performed outside of a scheduled maintenance service or a repair requiring the removal of these panels.
Warranty claims will be monitored and dealers that have a high incidence of additional labor costs will have their claims manually reviewed to ensure compliance with the above work instructions.
Please review the Effective Serial Number chart located on the following pages, and, if necessary, repair the subject vehicles during the vehicle's next service.
Prior to performing this Service Campaign:
- Please check VMI to insure the vehicle is involved and to determine if the vehicle has been previously repaired.
- Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin.
Approximately 51,934 vehicles are affected.
Effective Serial Number Range
NOTE:
Every vehicle in the VIN range may not be included in the campaign. VMI must always be checked before performing campaigns to verify that the campaign is required on a specific vehicle. VMI always overrides the bulletin in reference to a specific vehicle's inclusion in a particular campaign. Please also note that Recall and Service Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.
Procedure
A. INSPECT TRANSMISSION PILOT BUSHING AT ELECTROHYDRAULIC UNIT
1. Remove underbody paneling.
2. Inspect pilot bushing for green color coding (A, Figure 1).
- If green dot is present, reinstall underbody paneling; this campaign has been completed.
- If green dot is not present, proceed to SUBJECT B.
B. REPLACE TRANSMISSION PILOT BUSHING AT ELECTROHYDRAULIC UNIT
CAUTION:
Ensure the temperature of the transmission is not higher than 50 degree C prior to starting repairs.
NOTE:
If the vehicle has not been operated in a while, run the engine to fill the torque converter with transmission fluid to reduce the amount of fluid that will run out when the pilot bushing is removed.
1. ALL MODELS EXCEPT 163 AND 463: Remove heat shield (arrow, Figure 1).
2. Disconnect electrical connector at transmission.
3. Remove pilot bushing mounting bolt (Figure 2); remove pilot bushing.
NOTE:
When removing the pilot bushing, catch any transmission fluid that might leak out.
4. Install new pilot bushing and reassemble in reverse order.
- Torque pilot bushing mounting bolt to 3 Nm.
- Torque heat shield bolt to 6 Nm.
5. Mark new pilot bushing with a permanent green dot at location visible with heat shield in place (as shown in Figure 1).
6. Reinstall underbody paneling.
NOTE:
Ensure the transmission is cold (approx. 25 degree C) prior to performing step 7.
7. Remove breakaway locking tab from dipstick and check fluid level; the fluid level must be between the min and max marks (A, Figure 3).
- Refill transmission fluid to correct level.
- Install new pin on cap.
Special Tools
NOTE:
The above-listed Special Tools have been previously released to all dealers and should already be in your Special Tool inventory.

- Please be aware that only the part number(s) referenced in the Campaign Bulletin is/are approved for use to repair the vehicle. Repairs performed using any other part(s) will not have been performed in accordance with the campaign. Accordingly, warranty claims submitted with reference to an improper part number(s) will be denied.
- The following allowable labor operation should be used when submitting a warranty claim for this repair:
