Component Identification:





The selector lever can be moved into six different positions. The driver can select 2 different transmission modes using the transmission mode switch (S16/5).

The selector lever positions have the following meanings:

P Park lock and start position
R Reverse gear
N Neutral and start position (No power transmission takes place. The vehicle is not in gear.)
D All 7 forward gears are available.
+ Touch: Upshift by one shift range each time
Press and hold: change from current shift range direct to "D"
- Touch: Shift down one shift range each time.
The selected gear is only actuated at the permitted speed. Press and hold down: The transmission is shifted into a gear from which the vehicle can be easily accelerated or decelerated (A1 shift range displayed in instrument cluster (A1)).

With a finite shift range the upshift takes place close to the engine limit speed.

Transmission mode switch (S16/5)
Sport program "S":
^ Starting off in 1st gear for all driving situations.

Comfort program "C":
^ Starting off always in 2nd gear (except 1st gear shift range).
^ The maximum speed is not utilized in any one gear.

If kick down is actuated the gears are shifted up and down as for the sport program "S".
