Horn Sounds Inadvertently

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of the horn sounding inadvertently at times when steering or pressing the multifunction steering wheel buttons, the tolerance of the air gap between the airbag unit and the steering wheel may be too small. Please follow the instruction below to repair.

Warning:
Refer to WIS document AS91.00-Z-0001-01A for proper safety instructions and precautions when performing repair work on airbags.

1. Remove airbag unit (refer to WIS document AR91.60-P-0660Q for 209 and AR91.60-P-0660R for 230) and place on workbench top side down, so that the 4 torx head socket screws are visible.

2. Remove and discard the 4 torx head socket screws from the airbag unit (Figure 1).

3. Remove the metal contact plate from the rear of the airbag unit.

4. Remove and replace the 4 springs with the springs contained in the repair kit (Figure 2).

NOTE: Ensure that the springs are seated properly (Figure 3).

5. Install metal contact plate using the 4 torx screws and the washers included with the repair kit. Airbag unit may need to be inclined during install to properly fit the washers in place.

NOTE: Tighten bolts to a torque of 4 Nm

6. Verify that the washers are properly installed (Figure 3).

7. Reinstall the airbag unit to the steering wheel. Refer to WIS document AR91.60-P-0660Q.
