Function
The ventilation prevents windows from fogging up, provides fresh air to the occupants and ensures that uniform and pleasant temperatures in the interior are reached quickly.
In normal operation, when the vehicle is stationary or to increase the air quantity, through-ventilation is achieved with the assistance of the blower motor. Fresh air is drawn into the air conditioner housing via the air inlet in the engine hood and via the fresh air/air recirculation flap (fresh air position).
Depending on the preselection on the AAC [KLA] control and operating unit (without code (581) Comfort automatic air conditioning) or on the comfort AAC [KLA] control and operating unit (with code (581) Comfort automatic air conditioning), the air is directed through the air ducts to the air outlets in the interior compartment.
In recirculated air operation, air is drawn out of the vehicle interior through the fresh/recirculated air flap (recirculated air position) by the blower motor and delivered to the air conditioner housing. When the ignition is switched off, the fresh air/air recirculation flap is automatically moved into a 50 % fresh air and 50 % recirculated air position.
This achieves a significant reduction in the flap closing forces. Air flows into the trunk through ventilation slots below the rear shelf and flows out of the vehicle again through the rear ventilation.
On model 209.4, when driving with the soft top open, the fresh air/air recirculation flap is set to the 100 % fresh air position; for air distribution in automatic mode, fixed values apply for the defroster vents and the center level. The footwell flaps are regulated in the same way as for driving with the soft top closed.
