The AAC [KLA] control and operating unit (N22) controls and regulates all climate control functions for the vehicle interior:
^ Equalizing the temperatures that are preselected and actually present and adjusting the air outlet temperature at the air outlets,
^ Automatic switchover from fresh air to air recirculation mode,
^ Electrical actuation of refrigerant compressor,
^ Operating the engine/AC electric suction fan with integrated control
The following additional functions are also regulated by the AAC [KLA] control and operating unit (N22) and the required information is forwarded to the processing control units via the interior CAN (CAN B):
^ Heated rear window (HHS)
^ Stationary heater (STH) (for vehicles with code (228) Stationary heater)
The AAC control and operating unit (N22) is used to actuate the following:
^ via the interior CAN (CAN B):
- Refrigerant compressor
- Heater circulation pump
- Engine and air conditioning electrical suction fan with integrated control
- Heated rear window
^ via the AC bus:
- Blower regulator
- Actuator motors for the air distribution
The following sensor signals are read in by the AAC control and operating unit (N22):
^ Built-in sensor: in-car temperature sensor (N22b1)
^ direct: evaporator temperature sensor
^ via the AC bus: Air humidity sensor (up to 28.6.06)
The AAC [KLA] control and operating unit (N22) reads in the following signals from the interior CAN (CAN B):
^ By the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module:
- Outside temperature display temperature sensor
- Refrigerant pressure and temperature sensor
^ By the EIS [EZS] control unit:
- Battery voltage
- Coolant temperature
- Engine speed
^ By the instrument cluster:
- Ground speed
^ By the overhead control panel control unit:
- Information of the rain/light sensor (with code (345) Rain sensor)
- Position of the tilting/sliding roof (SHD) (with code (414) Power glass tilting/sliding roof)
^ By the restraint systems control unit:
- Information on the seat occupation status
^ By the left door control unit and right door control unit:
- Door status
- Window position
^ By the rear control unit (on model 209.3):
- Window position
^ By the power soft top control unit (on model 209.4):
- Soft top position
Blower selector wheel (1)
The blower selector wheel (1) controls the blower output. The blower selector wheel (1) is used to set the blower output in 6 stages and 6 intermediate positions.
Temperature selector wheel, left (2) and right (3)
The left temperature selector wheel (2) and right temperature selector wheel (3) serve to preset the desired temperature for the passenger compartment.
The desired interior temperature is adjusted separately for the left and right by turning the left temperature selector wheel (2) and right temperature selector wheel (3).
Air distribution selector wheel (4)
The air distribution selector wheel (4) can be used to manually set the air distribution for the left and right side of the vehicle interior.
Defroster button (5)
Pressing the defroster button (5) initiates the defrost function. The defroster function is used to prevent the windshield and the front side windows from fogging. To achieve this, the defroster outlets are fully open and the center air outlets and the footwell air outlets are completely closed.
Auto button (6)
Pressing the Auto button (6) enables the blower output and the air distribution to be regulated automatically. Pressing again switches off the automatic function and manual function is restored.
AC button (7)
Pressing the AC button (7) switches off the refrigerant compressor manually or automatically when the desired cooling requirement has been met and thereby shuts off the cooling mode.
Display logic of function LED in the AC button (7)
For vehicles up to 31.5.05, the function LED is off when the refrigerant compressor is on.
For vehicles as of 1.6.05, the function LED is on when the refrigerant compressor is on.
REST button (for code (670) Residual engine heat utilization system (REST))
Pressing the REST button, which is combined with the AC button (7), switches on the engine residual heat utilization system.
With the engine shut off, heating or just ventilation can be continued for another approx. 30 minutes. The function is only possible when the ignition is switched off. The residual engine heat utilization system is switched off automatically in the event of undervoltage.
Heated rear window switch (N22s1)
Pressing the rear window heater switch (N22s1) sends a switch-on request via the interior CAN (CAN B) to the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module, which switches on the heated rea window. Simultaneously the function LED in the heated rea window switch (N22s1) is activated
Air recirculation switch (N22s2) (vehicles up to model year 08/ YoM 07)
Briefly pressing the air recirculation switch (N22s2) for < 1.5 s closes the fresh and air recirculation flap to stop air entering from outside. The LED in the air recirculation switch (N22s2) lights up during operation.
The side windows and the tilting/sliding roof are closed prior to this, if necessary, by pressing the air recirculation switch (N22s2) for > 1.5 s.
Air recirculation switch (N22s2) (vehicles as of model year 09/ YoM 08 with code (494) USA version or code (460) Canada version)
Briefly pressing the air recirculation switch (N22s2) for < 1.5 s closes the fresh and air recirculation flap to stop air entering from outside. The LED in the air recirculation switch (N22s2) lights up during operation.
