Remove/Install Hydraulic Valve Clearance Compensation Elements

Shown On Engine 112 In Model 210:

1 Remove cylinder head covers (6)

2 Position crankshaft to 0 degrees after ignition TDC of cylinder 1

NOTE: Engine must not be rotated backwards.

3 Remove chain tensioner (5)
4 Take off camshaft bearing bridges (7 and 8)

NOTE: Installation: Inspect basic position of camshafts, if necessary.

5 Use a 2 mm drift to press compensation element (11) of the relevant cylinder out of the roller rocker arms (9)

CAUTION: Do not use a magnet!

- The slide surface of the compensation element (11) would get magnetized. This can cause minute iron chips to accumulate, which in turn can damage the compensation element (11) and the cam.

NOTE: Installation: The disk in the roller-type rocker arm at the top must face downwards with slots towards the compensation element (11)! Compensation elements which have not been replaced, must be re-installed at the same point.

6 Install in the reverse order.
