Remove/Install Front Axle Brake Caliper
- except CODE (949) EVOLUTION sport package
- except CODE (950) EVOLUTION AMG sport package

Remove/Install

DANGER:
- Risk of death. Death may result if vehicle slips or topples from the lifting platform.
- Align vehicle between the columns of the hydraulic hoist and position the four support plates below the hoist support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
- Risk of poisoning from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury from brake fluid coming into contact with skin and eyes.
- Pour brake fluid only into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid.

1 Remove front wheels
2 First disconnect brake hose (51) at brake line (5) and then at floating caliper (31a)

NOTE:
- Seal off line connections immediately with plugs. The brake fluid reservoir must not be allowed to empty completely.
- Unclip brake hose from bracket.

CAUTION: See notes on installing brake hoses

3 Unplug left front brake pad contact sensor (S10/1) from plug connection (S10/1x1).

CAUTION: See notes on installing contact sensor for brake lining wear indicator

4 Unscrew brake pad contact sensor plug (31e) from floating brake caliper

CAUTION: Installation: Install new self-locking bolts

5 Unscrew floating caliper (31a) from steering knuckle

CAUTION: Installation: Install new self-locking bolts (35).

6 Remove brake pads
7 Install in the reverse order
8 Bleed brake system.

DANGER:
- Risk of accident when the vehicle is first operated following repair work due to inadequate braking effect the first time the service brake is applied.
- Before starting engine, actuate brake pedal several times until the pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system.


9 Operate brake pedal several times until the brake pads make contact with the brake disks (firm resistance can be felt)

Inspect
10 Check brake system for leaks
