- with CODE (819) 6-disk CD changer
- with CODE (498) Japan version

Controlling CD player
The CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) is controlled via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST), dependent on the vehicle equipment, by the following components:
^ Radio (A2)
^ COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3)

The CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) generates messages for the following operating states:
^ No magazine in CD changer
^ Magazine occupation (audio CDs only)
^ Number of current CD
^ Number of current title
^ List of occupied CD insertion slots
^ Number of titles per CD
^ Current operating state (playback, pause, etc.)

The messages are placed on the MOST and interpreted by the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3).

CD playback
The audio data is stored digitally on the CD. In the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6), the audio CDs are driven by a motor, the unprinted side of the rotating audio CD is scanned by the laser-optic device without contacting and the digital optical signals are converted into electrical signals. Small gaps in the data stream of the laser-optical device (e.g. due to scratches, dirt) are later interpolated and thereby compensated.

The electric signals are then decoded in the CD player with changer (in glove compartment (A2/6) and transmitted via the MOST, depending upon the vehicle equipment, to the audio gateway control unit (N93/1) or the sound amplifier (A2/13).
