Navigation includes creating and outputting driving recommendations to guide the driver to the desired destination. The navigation processor of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) continuously compares the route calculation data with the continuous position finding data and derives from this the measures for continued navigation.

Depending on the position of the vehicle, a distinction can be made between the following two navigation system modes:
^ Navigation within the digitized DVD map area
^ Restricted navigation outside the digitized DVD map area
