- with CODE (498) Japanese version
The color liquid crystal display (LCD) of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is used to display television signals received by the integrated TV tuner. Visual TV signals can only be received when the vehicle is stationary and the parking brake is applied. TV reception is activated by pressing the "TV" button. Only acoustic playback is available when the vehicle is moving. The system can be controlled from all seats using an infrared remote control.
The required tone settings (volume, bass, treble and fader) can be made on the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). The audio signals are preamplified by the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3).
TV mute, function
The "mute" status of the audio sources is maintained if this was activated before the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) was switched off. If the audio signals are muted, a "mute" symbol appears in the top right of the display. To enable the "mute" status to be displayed in the TV screen, the "mute" status must be transmitted to the integrated TV tuner by means of a newly generated command.
The setting which was last selected before switching off the ignition, is adopted when the ignition is switched on again.
TV tuner system
The TV tuner integrated in the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) supplies the video and audio information for the TV system.

4-fold antenna diversity
Audio and picture antenna diversity work separately from each other in order to avoid interference noises or picture obliteration during mobile reception. The signals received from the antennas are supplied to the TV tuner of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) via 4 antenna inputs. The receiver automatically selects the best signal.
Audio antenna diversity
An adaptive quality signal derived from the audio frequency (AF) signal is provided to the central processing unit.
After completing a programmable decision-making process, the antenna is changed.
Video antenna diversity
The video signal quality evaluation requests an antenna switchover from the central processing unit. A switchover signal is then output switching on the alternative antenna. If this alternative antenna is better for the signal, it is retained.
Multistandard signal processing
The signals mixed to the intermediate frequency (IF) level by the TV tuner of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) are demodulated in the subsequent signal processing stage. The demodulation stage for the audio signal receives a narrow-band filtered IF signal. This signal has almost no video signals and therefore does not cause audio interference.
AV input
The TV tuner box has 2 connections for external sources (e.g. video or digital versatile disk (DVD) player). The video input format is the colour FBAS signal.
The video source outputs are connected to the coded tuner box inputs by an adapter cable.
Day/night design function
In the "Settings" menu, the user can choose between the day/night design and a black screen for the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). The day/night setting is controlled by a brightness regulator. The signal for this is transmitted by a brightness sensor.
