GF82.85-P-2006QM Switch On/Off Behavior, Function

GF82.85-P-2006QM Switch On/Off Behavior, Function
- with CODE (527) COMAND APS (with navigation)

Activating navigation
If the driver door is opened the navigation is activated automatically via the Controller Area Network bus class B (interior) (CAN-B).
This operation may be accompanied by barely audible noises from the DVD-ROM drive integrated into the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) if a digital versatile disk (DVD) is in the drive. The display of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) remains switched off.
If in turn no change in status is detected at the EIS control unit (N73), the navigation system will remain active for 30 minutes.

Activation of entire system
All other subsystems are activated by inserting the transmitter key (A8/1) into the EIS control unit (N73) in position 0 (circuit 15C ON).

In position 1 (circuit 15R ON) of the transmitter key (A8/1) the display is switched on. This happens provided the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) was switched on before the transmitter key (A8/1) was removed last.
The system which was active before it was last switched off (e.g. radio) is switched on and the corresponding basic menu is displayed. If the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) was switched off for more than 30 minutes, then a warning message appears with general information on using the system.

Conduct when pushing "ON" button
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) can also be switched on by pressing the "ON" button when the transmitter key (A8/1) is removed. All functions are then available for 30 minutes.

After 30 min have passed, the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) switches itself off automatically.
If switching off has occurred after 30 minutes, the system can be switched on again by pressing the "ON" button: the 30-minute run- on time starts again.

The position map is displayed again following the last navigation operation (destination reached). The unit switches off completely after a run-on time of 1 minute.

Switch off characteristics
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is switched off when the transmitter key (A8/1) is removed, "circuit 15C OFF". The navigation system run-on time of t = 30 min starts (standby). During this run-on time, all important location finding parameters remain stored. The run-on time of the audio systems can be set and this is carried out at the factory during installation of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). Moreover the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is always in "Standby" when the CAN-B is active.

Switch off characteristics at undervoltage
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) constantly monitors battery voltage. Depending on the voltage value the system will act as follows:
If the battery voltage drops below 11.5 volts (battery warning range) a message appears in the display which requests the engine to be started. If the engine is not started up, yet another warning is issued after 3 minutes have elapsed indicating that only 10 s remain to switch the engine on before the system shuts off. In this case switching on the engine prevents the system from being automatically shut down. However if the system has switched off and the voltage rises again above 11.5 V, the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) does not switch on again automatically.

If a system has been shut down it can still be switched back on again manually. The warning procedure is always repeated as long as the fault has not been eliminated.

Battery voltage below 9.5 V (undervoltage)
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is automatically put into a defined standby condition, in which only the battery voltage continues to be monitored. In addition to this the current operating status is stored. The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) cannot be operated or accessed using STAR DIAGNOSIS when it is in this condition.
Communication with external components does not take place.

Exceptions to switch-off behavior (run-on mode) if destination not reached:
^ The navigation system remains active up to 30 minutes (e.g. refueling stop). The navigation continues once the vehicle is restarted.
^ After 30 min to a maximum of 2 h, the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) remains in "Sleep mode". The route is calculated again after the vehicle is restarted and the navigation continued.
^ After 2 hours, a request is displayed when the vehicle is restarted asking if the route is to be calculated again.
"YES" = Route is calculated again.
"NO" = Navigation will cease.
