Activation of the voice control system (VCS)
Pulling the VCS [SBS] switch on the steering column tube module (N80) towards the driver actuates the voice control of the VCS [SBS] system. The control signal from the VCS [SBS] switch is forwarded to the "audio equipment" via the following components:
- Direct line
- Steering column tube module
- Interior CAN
The audio equipment transmits the actuation message via the MOST (Media Oriented System Transport) to the voice control system control unit (A35/11), which activates the integrated voice recognition of the VCS [SBS]. A signal tone is emitted after the voice control system has been activated. At the same time, the handsfree system microphone group (A67b1) is activated and the "audio equipment's" radio component is muted to ensure that the user input is not distorted in any way.
The signal tone is forwarded for vehicles with code (810) Sound system from the voice control system control unit over the MOST to the "audio equipment". The "audio equipment" sends the signal tone over the MOST to the sound system amplifier (N40/3). From there, the signal tone is transmitted over direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker (H4/1)
- Right front door speaker (H4/2)
- Left rear door speaker (H4/5)
- Right rear door speaker (H4/6)
- Left front door speaker, mirror triangle (H4/23)
- Right front door speaker, mirror triangle (H4/24)
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
- Subwoofer speaker (H4/29)
- Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/57)
In vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the signal tone is transmitted directly from the "audio equipment" via direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker
- Right front door speaker
- Left rear door speaker
- Right rear door speaker
- Left front door speaker, mirror triangle
- Right front door speaker, mirror triangle
The user can select and operate the particular components of the audio, communications and navigation system with the appropriate commands. Commands are received by the handsfree system microphone group and forwarded over a direct line to the voice control system control unit.
This voice control system control unit processes the user's voice input while taking the ambient noise into account (e.g., wind noise, tire rolling noise). If there is no immediate input, then the sensitivity of the handsfree system microphone group is increased. If there still is no input, the VCS is deactivated after approx. 15 s.
You can find a complete list of the commands that are available in the "Linguatronic operator's manual".
Adjust volume
When the VCS [SBS] is active, the volume of the announcements can be adjusted using the following components:
- Volume control on "audio equipment"
- + and - button, for setting specific functions and volume control (S111s1) at the right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
