Function requirements
- Status "Circuit 30 ON" or "Circuit 15R ON"
- One mobile phone network is available in sufficient strength and quality
- Mobile phone system operating error-free
- Mobile phone and "audio unit" switched on
- Compatible mobile phone inserted into UPCI cell phone holder (Universal Portable Cell Phone Interface) (A34/15)
- Correct Personal Identification Number (PIN) entered, if set on the mobile phone
- Enabled Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) card inserted in mobile phone

Depending on the equipment installed one of the following control units will be installed, hereafter referred to as the "audio unit":
- Radio (A2), with code (523) MB Audio 20 radio
- Radio and navigation unit (A2/56), with code (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio
- COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3), with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)

The cradle is connected to the UPCI (Universal Portable Cell Phone Interface) control unit (N123/1). The UPCI control unit forms the interface to the Media Oriented Transport System (MOST).

General
The mobile phone can be used by the user to initiate or terminate a telephone call to another person in the mobile phone system network or the fixed-line network.
The "Accept call and reject call with the mobile phone system" function consists of the following subfunctions:
- Function sequence, call signal
- Function sequence, accept call over mobile phone buttons
- Accept call function sequence over telephone keys or keypad on "audio unit"
- Function sequence, accept call over left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
- Function sequence, telephone call in handsfree mode
- Function sequence, reject call over mobile phone buttons
- Reject call function sequence over telephone keys or keypad on "audio unit"
- Function sequence, reject call over multifunction steering wheel button groups

Operating instruction
A call can be accepted or rejected via:
- Buttons on the mobile phone
- Telephone buttons or keypad on the "audio unit"
- Multifunction steering wheel button group

Function sequence, call signal
The mobile phone receives a call signal in the following way:
- Telephone antenna (A2/49a1)
- Direct line
- Telephone/cell phone/STH radio remote control antenna splitter (A2/53), with code (228) Stationary heater, and direct line
- E-net compensator (A28/3)
- Direct line
- Cradle

Information about the caller is displayed on the mobile phone's screen. The display on the mobile phone's screen is forwarded internally.

At the same time, the call signal is forwarded to the "audio unit" in the following way:
- Cradle
- Direct line
- UPCI [UHI] control unit
- MOST

The "audio equipment" on vehicles with code (810) Sound system sends the ringing tone over MOST to the sound system amplifier (N40/3).

The ringing tone is sent from the sound system amplifier over direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker (H4/1)
- Right front door speaker (H4/2)
- Left rear door speaker (H4/5)
- Right rear door speaker (H4/6)
- Left front door speaker, mirror triangle (H4/23)
- Right front door speaker, mirror triangle (H4/24)
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
- Subwoofer speaker (H4/29)
- Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/57)

At the same time, the "audio equipment" reduces the volume of the currently active audio source (e.g. the radio) by 15 dB. The audio source is not muted until the user accepts the call. This takes place internally in the "audio unit".

The caller identification is shown on the "audio equipment" display and in the instrument cluster (A1). The instrument cluster receives the data over the interior CAN from the "audio equipment".

In vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the signal tone is transmitted directly from the "audio unit" via direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker
- Right front door speaker
- Left rear door speaker
- Right rear door speaker
- Left front door speaker, mirror triangle
- Right front door speaker, mirror triangle

Function sequence, accept call over mobile phone buttons
Pressing the "Accept call" button on the mobile phone serves to accept the call in handsfree mode. The control signals from the buttons on the mobile phone are processed internally.

Accept call function sequence over telephone keys or keypad on "audio unit"
The call signal serves to display the caller identification on the screen of the "audio unit". Pressing the "Accept call" button on the "audio equipment" serves to accept the call in handsfree mode. The control signals from the buttons on the "audio equipment" are internally processed and forwarded over MOST to the UPCI control unit. From there the control signals are sent over a direct line and the cradle to the mobile phone.

Function sequence, accept call over multifunction steering wheel button groups
The call is accepted in handsfree mode by pressing the accept/ terminate phone call button (S111s3) in the corresponding subfield. The control signal from the accept and terminate phone call button forwarded to the mobile phone via the following components:
- Steering LIN
- Steering column tube module (N80)
- Interior CAN
- "Audio unit"
- MOST
- UPCI [UHI] control unit
- Direct line
- Cradle

Function sequence for telephone call in handsfree mode
After the call has been accepted, the mobile phone receives or transmits the mobile phone signals or data in the following way:
- Telephone antenna
- Direct line
- Telephone/cell phone/STH radio remote control antenna splitter, with code (228) Stationary heater, and direct line
- E-net compensator
- Direct line
- Cradle

The voice input is recorded in handsfree mode by the handsfree system microphone group (A67b1). For vehicles with code (813) Voice control system (VCS [SBS]) the signals are sent over a direct line to the voice control system control unit (A35/11).From there the signals are sent over the MOST to the UPCI control unit.

For vehicles except code (813) Voice control system (VCS [SBS]) the signals are sent over a direct line to the UPCI control unit.

The voice output for vehicles with code (810) Sound system is sent by the UPCI control unit over MOST to the "audio equipment". The "audio equipment" sends the signals over the MOST to the sound system amplifier. From there, the voice output is transmitted via direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker
- Right front door speaker
- Left rear door speaker
- Right rear door speaker
- Left front door speaker, mirror triangle
- Right front door speaker, mirror triangle
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill)
- Subwoofer speaker
- Left rear surround speaker
- Right rear surround speaker

For vehicles except code (810) Sound system the voice output is sent from the UPCI control unit over the MOST to the "audio equipment". The signals are sent from the "audio equipment" over direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker
- Right front door speaker
- Left rear door speaker
- Right rear door speaker
- Left front door speaker, mirror triangle
- Right front door speaker, mirror triangle

The mobile phone system sets up the telephone connection once the call is accepted in handsfree mode only.

Function sequence, reject call over mobile phone buttons
Pressing the "End" button on the mobile phone rejects the call. The control signals from the buttons on the mobile phone are processed internally.

Reject call function sequence over telephone keys or keypad on "audio unit"
Pressing the "End" button on the "audio equipment" rejects the call. The control signals from the telephone buttons on the "audio equipment" are internally processed and forwarded over MOST to the UPCI control unit. From there the control signals are sent over a direct line and the cradle to the mobile phone.

Function sequence, reject call over multifunction steering wheel button groups
Pressing the accept/terminate phone call button in the corresponding subfield rejects the call. The control signal from the accept and terminate phone call button is forwarded to the mobile phone via the following components:
- Steering LIN
- Steering column tube module
- Interior CAN
- "Audio unit"
- MOST
- UPCI [UHI] control unit
- Direct line
- Cradle
