Removal and Replacement









Removing, installing fuel tank


DANGER: Risk of explosion as a result of fuel vapors igniting. Risk of poisoning as a result of inhaling fuel vapors. Risk of injury as a result of fuel coming into contact with skin and eyes.

- No fire, naked flame or smoking. Pour fuels only into suitable and appropriate marked containers. Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.



1 Empty fuel tank, fill
- Pay attention to capacity.
- Refer to Fuel Tank below

2 Move vario roof into repair position
- Continue operating vario roof switch until the trunk lid is opened. After this, unlock trunk lid at lock and raise.

3 Remove luggage compartment screen
4 Remove trim panel of fuel tank as well as right and left side trim panels of luggage compartment
5 Take off fuel tank partition (30/1)


NOTE: Inspect insulation mat (80/4). replace if necessary.


NOTE: Installation: ensure that the hydraulic lines of the vario roof are not pinched.


Refer to Fuel Tank below

6 Unplug socket of fuel gage sensor
7 Detach fuel hose at Suction side (90/12), fuel return flow hose (90/11) and vent line (92)


NOTE: Collect remaining fuel, seal connections


Refer to Special Tool below

8 Take out fuel tank (80)


NOTE: Inspect cup seals (75/4), replace if necessary.


9 Remove fuel strainer (26)
- Clean and inspect whether Strainer can be re-used.
- Refer to Fuel Tank below


NOTE: The splash bowl in the fuel tank is secured against turning by 2 pins. It is attached together with the fuel strainer (26).


10 Replace O-ring (26/1)
- Oil to facilitate Installation.

11 Install in the reverse order
12 Dispose of fuel tank
