Parking Assist Distance Sensor: Description and Operation

NOTE: There are several versions of the sensors depending on vehicle model/model year. Sensors of different versions must not be installed together in the same vehicle. A defective seating or mechanical damage to the sensors or an incorrect version of the sensor may cause faults or incorrect displays.

Task
The sensors both send and receive ultrasonic signals for measuring the distance of obstacles in relation to the vehicle.

Function
The sensor actuated by the control module emits an ultrasonic signal and is ready to receive after a short delay (the time necessary for the membrane oscillations to decay).
Each sensor receives the echoes of its own ultrasound signals as well as the echoes of the ultrasound signals from neighboring sensors. The distance to the obstacle is calculated from the journey time of the echoes.
Angle:
Horizontal: 120 degrees
Vertical: 60 degrees
