GF82.95-P-2001R Authorization, Function

GF82.95-P-2001R Authorization, Function
- with CODE (855) TELE AID

Component Identification:

Authorizing TELE AID emergency call
With the authorization the service provider authorizes the actuation of a TELE AID emergency call. The authorization is vehicle and not person-related.
Authorization is required in the following cases:
^ When the system is initially started up.
^ With a new SIM Subscriber Identification Module) for card ( TELE AID
^ When the vehicle owner changes
^ After expiration of a period of 6 months following last authorization (this procedure takes place automatically in the background).

During authorization a check is accomplished via mobile telephone:
^ The validity of the SIM card (for TELE AID) installed in the D2B telephone and TELE AID transmitter/receiver (A35/17).
^ The vehicle identification number (VIN) If the system is not authorized a TELE AID emergency call is not possible. In this case "only" a 112 emergency call (without emergency call telegram) is transmitted, which does not require authorization.
When the system is not authorized, the SOS pushbutton switch (S93/3) indicator lamp comes on and an error message appears on the display in the instrument cluster (A1) (see top Fig.).

To ensure a trouble-free operation, the following should be avoided during authorization:
^ Actuating an emergency alarm/telediagnosis or
^ switching off the ignition or
^ switching off the telephone interface (A34/4) or
^ Setting TELE AID to diagnosis mode (via STAR diagnosis).

Misuse of emergency call alarm is subject to punishment!

Procedure when alarm is triggered erroneously
If an emergency call is triggered erroneously in the workshop, it is not possible to interrupt it even by disconnecting the on-board electrical system battery. In this case always wait until voice contact is made with police. Then inform police of unintentional actuation to prevent rescue vehicles from starting their rescue service.

Authorization TELE AID telediagnosis
With the authorization the service provider (Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance Center (CAC)) authorizes to trigger a TELE AID telediagnosis call (roadside assistance call) and a TELE AID information call. The authorization is vehicle and not person-related.
Authorization is required in the following cases:
^ When the system is initially started up.
^ With a new SIM card (subscriber identification module) for TELE AID
^ When the vehicle owner changes

During authorization a check is accomplished via mobile telephone:
^ The validity of the SIM card (for TELE AID) installed in the telephone transmitter/receiver and TELE AID, D2B (A35/17).
^ The vehicle identification number (VIN)

If the system is not authorized a TELE AID diagnosis call and TELE AID information call is not possible.

If no authorization has been obtained, the SOS pushbutton switch (S93/3) indicator lamp comes on and an error message appears in the instrument cluster (A1) or COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3).
To ensure trouble-free operation the following should be avoided during authorization:
^ Actuating telediagnosis or
^ switching off the ignition or
^ switching off the telephone interface (A34/4) or
^ Setting TELE AID to diagnosis mode (via STAR diagnosis).

For questions concerning authorization, deauthorization and diagnosis contact CAC Maastricht.

Please contact debitel for all questions concerning applications.

Authorization procedure for TELE AID emergency call, TELE AID telediagnosis
Only GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) is needed for setting up authorization. This means that authorization can take place anywhere where cellular telephones will work.

Things that have to be done in advance:
^ The salesperson must submit the application together with the user and complete the transfer process to the user.
^ The authorization process must be performed by the mechanic, i.e. they must ensure that a vehicle with functioning telematics services is handed over to the user.

Application and application shipping for TELE AID
Together with the user the salesperson must completely prepare two application forms (debitel order telematics and debitel card order for Mercedes-Benz special equipment) and send them to debitel
When filling out the applications ensure that the data (vehicle chassis number, vehicle license plate, GSM number) is completely and correctly entered, otherwise it is not possible to perform the authorization. It is particularly important to enter the authorization date (access authorization date).
After filling out the applications, send them to the Customer Assistance Center by fax.

Checking delivery date
Authorization of TELE AID is performed on the day entered in the application for access authorization.
This date depends on the delivery date of the vehicle. The salesman coordinates the transfer date with the user and plans the date for the access authorization.
The dealer picks up the confirmation for the delivery date from Mercedes-Benz and plans the date for access authorization.

Authorization only works on this date (keyword: authorization to the exact day). This is the date when the authorization messages are transmitted by the service centers to the D2B telephone and TELE AID transmitter/receiver (A35/17) via the GSM network.

Modifying access authorization date
If the authorization date changes, the CAC must be notified of the new deadline (telephone, fax).
For precise identification of the vehicle to be authorized the CAC requires the data of the telematics application.
If the CAC is not informed about the modification of the access authorization date the dealer is not able to perform an authorization (changing form for access authorization date).

Before starting the actual authorization check the following list. Refer to the checklist to ensure that the authorization is prepared in full.
1. The TELE AID SIM card is installed in the telephone transmitter/receiver and TELE AID, D2B (A35/17)
2. The D2B telephone and TELE AID transmitter/receiver (A35/17) is programmed.
3. TELE AID is applied for (telematics application sent to debitel)
4. No SIM card is inserted in the telephone handset (A34).
5. The authorization date corresponds to the access authorization date on the telematics application.
6. PIN for TELE AID SIM card is known.

The PIN is stored in the letter of the telephone card, which can only be opened when the customer is present.

If the D2B telephone and TELE AID transmitter/receiver (A35/17) is installed ex factory, it is already programmed at the factory.
If the D2B telephone and TELE AID transmitter/receiver (A35/17) is a replacement unit, it should be programmed on site.

Authorization sequence
1. Switch on circuit 15 R (ignition)
2. Display on telephone handset (A34) informs that no telematics services (error message in instrument cluster (A1)) are available
3. Display on telephone handset (A34) informs that the service mode is currently active; quit this mode.
4. Display on telephone handset (A34) requests PIN of TELE AID SIM, which must be entered on the telephone handset (A34) (entered numbers are not shown, only placeholders (asterisks)
5. Display on telephone handset (A34) requests further processing steps for entered PIN code and PIN must be stored, which is absolutely necessary for using TELE AID
6. Automatic authorization is now started and completed after 15 minutes. Circuit 15 R should be left switched on during this time.

The service mode of the D2B telephone and TELE AID transmitter/receiver (A35/17) deactivates the automatic switchover of the system to the additional battery (G1/1) when the main power supply is interrupted. The service mode is switched on by STAR diagnosis. It is also switched off by STAR Diagnosis or via the telephone handset (A34).

After successful authorization, the error messages in the instrument cluster (A1) are erased. If the error messages have not been erased after the authorization phase lasting 15 minutes then there is a fault.

Switch ignition on and off after authorization time.

Error limitation
If both error messages are still active both services could not be authorized. If only one error message is active this service could not be authorized.

Reading out DTC's
Read out DTC of the telephone transmitter/receiver and TELE AID, D2B (A35/17) by means of STAR diagnosis. Compare chassis number stored in the D2B telephone and TELE AID transmitter/ receiver (A35/17) with chassis number in vehicle papers. If errors in the vehicle and the telephone transmitter/receiver and TELE AID, D2B (A35/17) can be excluded, contact CAC. The CAC helps authorizing TELE AID. Chassis number and fault codes are required for this purpose. Moreover, they check whether the access authorization date coincide with the date specified by CAC.
The CAC clarifies together with dealer the error cause for the services (TELE AID emergency call/telediagnosis). Then authorization is performed again.

Handing over vehicle
Following authorization the vehicle can be handed over to the user.

Coordinating later authorization date
TELE AID could not be authorized until the time specified, however, the user insists on handing over the vehicle. A new TELE AID authorization date should be agreed upon with user.
On this specific day the vehicle should be present in the workshop. The CAC is informed about the new access authorization date in due time. Inform the user that the TELE AID is not operative and have him sign a confirmation form ('Shut-down confirmation' form).

TELE AID should not be authorized
The vehicle is, however, equipped with a TELE AID system, the TELE AID service should not be authorized (no telematics application present). The user is informed, that the system does not work and signs a form for confirmation (preprinted form). The error messages indicated in the instrument cluster (A1) are deactivated by STAR diagnosis. Affix sticker (out of order) to cover of SOS pushbutton switch (S93/3).Ensure that the D2B telephone and TELE AID transmitter/receiver (A35/17) is no longer in the production mode (via STAR Diagnosis).

The production mode deactivates all TELE AID services. Production mode is used in the plant and is switched off at the end of the line. The production mode is also switched off when the TELE AID service is authorized. If the CTEL and TELE AID transmitter/receiver, D2B (A35/17) is not authorized, because the user does not want the authorization, it is essential to exit from the production mode with the STAR Diagnosis.

Deauthorization
Written notice by the user
If the TELE AID is no longer used, a notice should be signed by the user ('Notice of TELE AID service' form).
The dealer sends the notice to the CAC.
The notification for the TELE AID services should have the following specifications:
^ Vehicle chassis number (VIN)
^ SA code for telephone transmitter/receiver and TELE AID, D2B (A35/17)
^ GSM number for TELE AID SIM card
^ Desired deauthorization date
^ Name of customer
^ Signature of customer
^ Stamp of dealer
^ Signature of dealer

Deauthorizing TELE AID by the dealer
Deauthorization of TELE AID system is performed by the dealer. This is accomplished on the day entered on the notice as deauthorization date.
For deauthorization of the TELE AID services check the following list.
1. Check whether TELE AID services are still active.
2. Send TELE AID notice to CAC.
3 Ensure that the TELE AID SIM card is still installed in the control unit.
4. Ensure that there is no SIM card in the telephone handset (A34).

Deauthorization sequence
1. Switch on c. 15 R on the deauthorization date (ignition).
2. Enter PIN for TELE AID SIM card.
3. Now the deauthorization is performed automatically.
4. The deauthorization is complete after 15 minutes. The error messages (authorize SOS/authorize telediagnosis) and the indicator lamp in the SOS pushbutton switch (S93/3)are active.

If this is not the case, the dealer can request the deauthorization from the CAC by telephone.

Changing owner of a TELE AID vehicle
If the TELE AID vehicle owner changes, the procedure differs depending on the TELE AID status (authorized/not authorized) before and after the owner change.

Four different cases are to be distinguished:
1. Previous and subsequent owner use TELE AID
2. Previous and subsequent owner do not use TELE AID
3. Previous owner uses TELE AID and subsequent owner does not use TELE AID
4. Previous owner does not use TELE AID and subsequent owner uses TELE AID

TELE AID may only be started up if the vehicle has a regular license plate (legal requirement).

Previous and subsequent owner use TELE AID
The TELE AID service of the previous owner should be given notice and deauthorized. The TELE AID services of the subsequent owner should be applied for and deauthorized.

Previous and subsequent owner do not use TELE AID
The subsequent owner confirms in writing (form) that he has been notified that the TELE AID does not work.

Previous owner uses TELE AID and subsequent owner does not use TELE AID
The TELE AID service of the previous owner should be given notice and deauthorized.
An application for the TELE AID services must not be performed for the subsequent owner. However, the error messages for TELE AID emergency call and telediagnosis are to be deactivated via STAR diagnosis. The subsequent owner confirms in writing (form) that he has been notified that the TELE AID does not work.

Previous owner does not use TELE AID and subsequent owner uses TELE AID
When the vehicle is handed over by the previous owner the error messages for authorization of TELE AID emergency call and telediagnosis are to be activated via STAR diagnosis. An application is to be made for the TELE AID service for the subsequent owner as well as authorization.

TELE AID control unit replacement(applies not when vehicle owner changes)
The D2B telephone and TELE AID transmitter/receiver (A35/17) must be replaced, since an error in the TELE AID emergency call, TELE AID telediagnosis or on the telephone function is present. Before replacing the D2B telephone and TELE AID transmitter/ receiver (A35/17) check the previous TELE AID status (authorized/ not authorized).

Control unit replacement with authorized TELE AID
Perform the following steps:
1 Preprinted form ('Modification application for control unit replacement') should be filled out by the dealer and user and sent to the CAC.
2. Remove defective D2B telephone and TELE AID transmitter/ receiver (A35/17).
