Turn Signal Indicator Actuation, Function

Turn Signal Indicator Actuation, Function

Operational sequence turn indicators
1 Basic prerequisite:
- Ignition on (terminal 15)
2 The combination switch lever (S4) is set to "Left turn" or "Right turn" position.
3 The jacket tube module (N80) senses the flashing position of the combination switch and transmits the signal "Turn left" or "Turn right" to the corresponding control modules for actuating the turn signal lamps via the passenger compartment CAN bus.
4.1 Left turn:
- The left SAM control module (N10/10) actuates the turn signal (E1e5) in the left headlamp unit.
- The left door control module (N69/1) actuates the left outside mirror turn signal (E6/5).
- The rear SAM control module (N10/8) actuates the turn signal lamp (E3e1) in the left-hand tail lamp.
4.2 Actuation of right turn signal
- The right SAM control module (N10/11) actuates the turn signal lamp (E2e5) in the right headlamp unit.
- The right front door control module (N69/2) actuates the right exterior mirror turn signal (E6/6).
- The rear SAM control module (N10/8) actuates the turn signal lamp (E4e1) in the right taillamp.
5 The instrument cluster (A1) signals the turn signal procedure optically and acoustically by acoustically actuating the indicator lamp in the left or right turn signal lamp (A1e1 or A1e2) and the audible turn signal indicator (A1h2).

NOTE: Actuation of the turn signals is terminated automatically by means of automatic reset when the steering wheel is turned back or by manually moving the combination switch to the middle position.

If a turn signal lamp fails, the flash frequency of the left or right turn signal indicator lamp in the instrument cluster is doubled. The frequency of the turn signal lamps remains unchanged.

Turn signal lamp touch control, function sequence

NOTE:
- The operational sequence for the turn signal lamp touch control is the same, in relation to the signal flow, as that for the turn signal indicator. The difference is only how the flashing operation is actuated and terminated.
- For turn signal touch control move the combination switch lever momentarily (less than 500 ms) to the desired turn signal position. When the lever is not arrested in the turn signal position this operation actuates three flashing cycles.
- Touch flashing is interrupted by activating the hazard warning lamp function or by operating the combination switch in the opposite direction.
