Recall - Seat Belt Buckle Replacement

MODELS 203.740/764, 209.365/375/376/465/475/476, 211.065/070/082/083/265/283/282

REPLACEMENT OF SEAT BELT BUCKLES

DCAG has determined that C-Class, CLK-Class and E-Class vehicles in the attached VIN range have seatbelt buckles that may not completely lock when fastened under certain circumstances. If this condition exists, the seatbelt buckle may not remain locked to provide full protection in the event of a crash.

Note:
For models 203 and 209 replace both front/rear seat belt buckles.

For model 211 replace rear seat belt buckles only

Please review the Effective Serial Number Chart.





Included is a sample copy of a letter which owners of the affected vehicles will receive.

Prior to performing this Recall Campaign:

^ Please check VMI to insure the vehicle is involved and to determine if the vehicle has been previously repaired.

^ Please review the entire Recall Campaign bulletin.

Approximately 4348 vehicles are involved.

Procedure:

Note:
Ensure you are using the latest version of WIS (11/2003).

WARNING!
Risk of injury caused by test or repair work on airbags or seat belt emergency tensioning devices (please refer to WIS: AS91.00-Z-0001-01A).

Note:

^ DO NOT disconnect SRS control module as indicated in the above WIS instructions when performing these procedures

Note:

^ Please note, it is acceptable to reuse the seat belt buckle hold down bolts. It is also not necessary to apply additional thread locking material to these bolts.

^ DO NOT deploy the electronic tensioning devices prior to shipping (rear seat belt buckles on models 203.7, 209.3/4).








^ Ensure hazardous shipping guidelines are adhered to. DO NOT disconnect the battery cable.

A. MODELS 203.740/764
REPLACEMENT OF FRONT AND REAR SEAT BELT BUCKLES

1. Replacement of front seat belt buckles (refer to: WIS AR91.40-P-1515P).

Note (additional information to the above WIS document):

When routing seat belt buckle harness, ensure harness is clipped onto seat frame and harness is secured with new cable ties (as in original factory configuration).

2. Replacement of rear seat belt buckle (refer to WIS: AR91.40-P-1516P).

3. Read diagnostic trouble code memory and erase using Star Diagnosis.

B. MODELS 209.365/375/376/465/475/476
REPLACEMENT OF FRONT AND REAR SEAT BELT BUCKLES

1. Replacement of front seat belt buckles (refer to WIS: AR91.40-P-151 5Q).

Note (additional information to the above WIS document):
When routing seat belt buckle harness, ensure harness is clipped onto seat frame and harness is secured with new cable ties (as in original factory configuration).

2. Replacement of rear seat belt buckles models 209.365/375/376 (refer to WIS AR91.40-P-1516Q).

Remove insulation under seat bottom: remove two seat bottom retaining lugs (arrows, Figure 1) remove insulation (A).

3. Replacement of rear seat belt buckles models 209.465/475/476 (refer to WIS AR91.40-P-1516QA).

C. MODELS 211.065/070/082/083/265/283/282
REPLACEMENT OF REAR SEAT BELT BUCKLES

1. Replacement of rear seat belt buckles models 211.065/070/082/083 (refer to WIS AR91.40-P-1516T).

2. Replacement of rear seat belt buckles models 211.265/283/282 (refer to WIS AR91.40-P-1516TA).
