The airbag indicator and warning lamp (A1e15) on the instrument cluster (A1) serves as a function check of the supplemental restraint system (SRS). In the event of a fault an additional message is displayed in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1): The following statuses are possible:
^ The airbag indicator and warning lamp (A1e15) illuminates when "Circuit 15R ON" occurs for approx. 4 seconds and then goes out again. The system did not find a fault during the self-test.
^ The airbag indicator and warning lamp (A1e15) illuminates continuously when "Circuit 15R ON" occurs. The system found a fault during its cyclic self-test.

If the following errors occur, the airbag indicator and warning lamp (A1e15) is on continuously:
^ Error in restraint systems control unit (N2/7)
^ Error in external ignition circuits
^ Error in external sensors

If the instrument cluster (A1) detects that there is no communication with the restraint systems control unit (N2/7), it independently actuates the airbag indicator and warning lamp (A1e15). The instrument cluster (A1) stores a fault in its fault memory.
