Component Identification:

As of 1.6.03 the display of the selected driving program in the gear indicator (A1p12) has changed from W, S to C, S (C = Comfort, S = Sport).

This document covers the following points:
^ Operating the multifunction display (A1p13)
^ Call display of different systems
^ Browse within a system
^ Individual settings
^ Change setting, e.g. change over temperature display from degrees Celsius (°C) to degrees Fahrenheit (°F)
^ Recall the factory settings
^ Call stored fault and warning messages
^ Acknowledge fault and warning messages in the multifunction display (A1p13)
^ Set brightness of lighting

Operating the multifunction display (A1p13)
If the instrument cluster (A1) is activated by opening the driver door, for instance, the main screen of the base system (trip and total mileage, outside temperature) always appears on the multifunction display (A1p13)

Calling up display of different systems
Function requirement is "Circuit 15R ON".
If the system selection button (S110s3) of the multifunction steering wheel is pressed, the multifunction display (A1p13) switches over to the basic display of the next system. Once the driver has scrolled through all systems the main screen of the base function appears again.

System selection via multifunction steering wheel using the system selection button (S110s3)

Function of scroll forward/back pushbutton (S110s1) using the base function as an example

The illustration above shows the possible systems arranged in a circle. When the system selection button (S110s3) is pressed, the display always goes to the next system.

You can jump to another system from any screen by pressing the system selection button (S110s3). With the exception of the trip computer, the basic display of this system then appears. If a change is made from the system in front to the trip computer system, the display screen is always called up which was last shown for the trip computer.

Scrolling within a system
Function requirement is "Circuit 15R ON".
In addition to the main screen, most systems also feature other screens.
The scroll forward/back button (S110s1) is used to scroll within a system.
The display jumps one screen further each time the driver presses the scroll forward/back pushbutton (S110s1). The display scrolls either forwards or backwards depending on which portion of the scroll forward/back pushbutton (S110s1) the driver presses.

As of 1.6.03 the base function is expanded by the system with the code (477) tire pressure loss warning.

Only systems and functions with which the vehicle is equipped are displayed. If a system is not present, it is not displayed (go toped) when the system selection button (S110s3) is pressed.

Overview and sequence for the "Settings" menu item

Selection of menu items in the menu item "Settings"

With the instrument cluster (A1) the time can be set in hours and minutes on vehicles except code (352) COMAND operating and display system.

Temperature display
A1p4The driver can switch the outside temperature indicator between degrees Celsius and degrees Fahrenheit. The instrument cluster (A1) also sends a message for the air conditioning on the class B (interior) controller area network bus (CAN-B).

Speedometer
You can switch the tachometer between miles and kilometers per hour. This changeover also affects the display of the trip computer system integrated in the instrument cluster (A1). The instrument cluster (A1) sends a message on the Class C (engine compartment) controller area network bus (CAN-C).

The following settings are also possible:
^ Automatic door locking (ON or OFF)
^ Speed limit for winter tires "160 km/h to 240 km/h" or "OFF
^ Light switching - Driving lights manual lights, automatic lights
^ Ambient illumination function
^ Headlamp switch-off delay in steps of 0, 15, 30, 45, 60 seconds
^ Interior light OFF delay time in steps of 0, 5, 10, 15, 20 seconds
^ Station search (frequency, memory)
^ Cut-in time of stationary heater (STH), with code (228) stationary heater
^ Activate entry assist (only steering wheel adjustment or seat adjustment and steering wheel adjustment "ON" or "OFF"), with code (275) memory package (driver seat, steering column, mirrors), with code (275) Memory package (driver seat, mirrors) or with code (275) Electrically adjustable driver seat, steering column and outside mirrors with memory
^ Parking assist mirror adjustment "ON" or "OFF"

Messages in categories 2 and 3 in the multifunction display (A1p13) can be acknowledged by pressing the instrument illumination rheostat and reset button (A1r1) as well as with the system selection button (S110s3) of the multifunction steering wheel and then stored in the fault memory.

Messages of category 1 (highest priority) cannot be acknowledged. Indicator or warning lamps that light up at the same time cannot be acknowledged.

Certain fault and warning messages are also accompanied by a chime. A fault message and warning message is "Close trunk lid" for example. Such fault messages and warning messages are not stored in the fault memory.

Setting illumination brightness
The brightness of illumination of the instrument cluster (A1) and the switch and controls illumination can be adapted to individual requirements with the dimmer for instrument, switch and controls illumination (A1r1):
^ Brightness is increased by turning to the right.
