Remove/install bottom part of oil pan

DANGER:
- Risk of death. Death may result if vehicle slips or topples from the lifting platform.
- Align vehicle between the columns of the hydraulic hoist and position the four support plates below the hoist support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
- Risk of accident. Accidents may result if the vehicle starts off unintentionally with the engine running. Risk of injury as working around the engine during start-up or while running may result in contusions and burns.
- Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.
- Risk of explosion from explosive gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injure through burns to skin and eyes from battery add or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries.
- No fire, sparks, naked flames or smoking. Wear protective gloves, acid-resistant clothing and safety glasses. Pour battery electrolyte only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.


1 Remove air cleaner housing
- Model 211: Unclip cover of engine face end.

NOTE:
- Remove air cleaner by lifting vertically up and off the cylinder head covers.
- Installation: Lightly coat the rubber retainers on the cylinder head covers and the sealing ring of the hot fit mass air flow sensor (B2/5) in the air cleaner housing with sliding compound.

- Liquid lubricant (Naphtolen H)

2 Remove hot film mass air flow sensor (B2/5) with air intake pipe.
3.1 Remove bracket (1) of oil dipstick guide tube (2) at exhaust gas recirculation valve (3)
- Model 203, 209

3.2 Unscrew oil dipstick guide tube (2) from bracket at exhaust gas recirculation valve.
- MODEL 211

4 Pull out dipstick guide tube (2) a little.
5 Fit on engine supporting frame.
6 Remove engine compartment paneling.
7 Remove bracket (8) of pressure line of power steering pump at oil pan bottom section (6)
- MODEL 211

8 Drain and collect engine oil

CAUTION: Installation: Replace sealing ring of oil drain plug, in order to avoid oil leakage.

9 Unbolt engine mounts at front axle carrier
10 Raise engine.

CAUTION: When raising and lowering the engine ensure, that the rear of the engine does not touch the engine compartment end plate, that the lines are not overtensioned and that the hot film mass air flow sensor (B2/5) is not damaged.

11.1 Remove oil sensor (oil level, temperature and quality) (B40)
- Not on model 211

NOTE: Installation: Replace O-ring of oil sensor (oil level, temperature and quality) (B40).

11.2 Detach lines of oil sensor (oil level, temperature and quality) (B40) and of O2 sensors (arrows) and tie to the side.
- MODEL 211

12 Remove mounting bracket (10) of right automatic oil line (5) and left automatic oil line (5a) at bracket (4)
- On vehicles with transmission 722.6

13 Remove bracket (4) of right automatic oil line (5) and left automatic oil line (5a) at oil pan bottom section (6)
- On vehicles with transmission 722.6

14.1 Detach right ATF line (5) at transmission
- On vehicles with transmission 722.6

CAUTION: Installation: Replace sealing rings of banjo bolt of right automatic oil line (7), in order to avoid oil leakage.

15 Unscrew bolts of bottom part of oil pan (6)
16 Take out bottom part of oil pan (6) to the rear.
- Model 203, 209

NOTE: At the same time push oil dipstick guide tube (2) a little to the top. Press bracket (4) of left automatic oil line (5a) slightly to the side.
- MODEL 211
- At the same time push oil dipstick guide tube (2) a little to the side
- Installation: Ensure correct seating of the Gasket of the oil dipstick guide tube (2) in the oil pan top section. Observe application of sealing compound to oil pan bottom section (6).
- See information on application of sealant to oil pan.

17 Install in the reverse order.
18 Read out diagnostic trouble code memory using STAR DIAGNOSIS and erase if necessary.

19 Inspect engine oil level, adjust to correct level

NOTE:
- Check oil fill level when engine is at normal operating temperature.
- Model 209.376 has no oil dipstick. On this model, the oil fill level is digitally checked in the instrument cluster.

20 Inspect ATF level in automatic transmission, top up if necessary
- On vehicles with transmission 722.6
21 Run engine and inspect for leaks.
