Function requirements
The trailer recognition control unit (N28/1) has detected the coupled trailer.

Function sequence
The rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) receives the message to actuate the rear lighting systems via the class B (interior) Controller Area Network Bus (CAN-B).
The rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) actuates the rear lighting systems on the vehicle and relays the message to the trailer recognition control unit (N28/1) via the CAN- B.

The trailer recognition control unit (N28/1) actuates the trailer's corresponding lighting systems via the AHV socket, 13-pin (X58).

Rear fog lamp
When it detects a connected trailer, the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) interrupts actuation of the vehicle's left rear fog lamps and stop lamps. Then, only the trailer's rear fog lamp is actuated.

Lamp failure indicator
The vehicle's lamp failure indicator also monitors the trailer's lighting system. A malfunction in the instrument cluster (A1) is displayed.
