GF82.85-P-2006Q Switch On/Off Behavior, Function

15.03.07 The document has been updated to this date and will no longer be subject to revision.

On/Off characteristics
Position "0" (circuit 15C ON)
In order to ensure a quicker switch-on process, only the bus systems are activated for 3 minutes by inserting the transmitter key (A8/1) into the EIS control unit (N73), position "0" (circuit 15C ON). This process is triggered by the radio (A2) by sending a signal via the wake-up line. A wake-up signal can also be triggered by the telephone, for example.
If the radio (A2) is switched on with the ON/OFF button, it is switched off automatically after 1 hour.

Position"1" (circuit 15R ON)
The unit is switched on by turning the transmitter key (A8/1) to position "1" (circuit 15R ON), provided that it was switched on prior to the last time the transmitter key (A8/1) was removed.

It remains in operation until the transmitter key (A8/1) is removed again.
The function options are limited to:
^ Operating the radio (A2)
^ Multifunction display (A1p13) in the instrument cluster (A1)
^ Operation via multifunction steering wheel

Position "2" (circuit 15 ON)
All the functions in the vehicle are operational by turning the transmitter key (A8/1) further to position "2" (circuit 15 ON). The system that was active before the key was last removed is switched on and the corresponding main menu is displayed.

Position "3" (circuit 50 ON)
The engine is started by turning the transmitter key (A8/1) to position 3 "circuit 50 ON". If a considerable voltage drop occurs while starting the engine, the system switches off for this duration but switches back on again once the on-board electrical system has stabilized.

Characteristics when operating the ON/OFF button
The radio (A2) can also be switched on by pressing the ON/OFF button on the rotary switch, even with the transmitter key (A8/1) removed. All Digital Data Bus (D2B) functions are then available for 1 hour. The system switches off automatically after the time has elapsed.
If a shut-off has occurred after 1 hour, the system can be switched on again by pressing the ON/OFF button. The 1-hour cycle then restarts.

On-off behavior using "AUTO ON"
Due to an incoming telephone call or an SMS, the telephone transmitter/receiver (D2B) (A35/13) or telephone interface (A34/4) is activated during the run-on time and introduces a wake-up pulse via the D2B. Switching off takes place either using the ON/OFF button or by removing the transmitter key (A8/1).
An active phone call is not interrupted by removing the transmitter key (A8/1). In this case the D2B system switches off automatically.

Switch off characteristics
The radio (A2) is switched off when the transmitter key (A8/1) "circuit 15C OFF" is removed from the electronic ignition switch (EIS) control unit (N73).
The radio (A2) is always in standby mode when the Controller Area Network Bus class B (interior) (CAN-B) is active.

Battery voltage below 9.5 V (undervoltage)
The radio (A2) is automatically brought to a defined waiting condition. In addition to this the current operating status is stored. In this condition the radio (A2) cannot be operated or made to respond using STAR DIAGNOSIS. Communication with external components does not take place.
