Component Identification:

The COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) is the central component in the Cockpit Management and Data System (COMAND). Some of the controls of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) are assigned fixed functions, i.e. the function to be activated is independent of the menu currently selected.
All components controlled by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) are linked to each other by MOST (Media Oriented System Transport). This networking allows components to be installed in different places in the vehicle without affecting control by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3).

The following components are integrated in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3):
^ Navigation processor
^ Multistandard disk drive
^ Multifunction TV tuner

A cursor key (combined with enter key) for the navigation mode is located on the left-hand side below the display. This key is used to move the map, to enter a destination (manually) on the map, and to search within a navigation list.
The following external components and systems can be operated using the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3):
^ CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) (for code (819) 6-disk CD changer)
^ Voice control system (for code (813) Voice control system (VCS [SBS])
^ Telephone system

Voice output
The software for the voice control system integrated in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) only supports Japanese.

Additional audio sources (e.g. MP3 player, Walkman) can be connected using the "Audio-AUX" function. For this purpose an external "AUX" connection is located in the glove box as provision for connection.
