Fresh air mode
In fresh air mode ( LED not illuminated) the fresh air/recirculated air flap (1) opens the fresh air duct and closes the recirculation duct. The blower motor (A32m1) draws in fresh air into the automatic air-conditioning box.







Recirculated air mode
If recirculation mode is selected by pressing the recirculating air pushbutton on the AAC pushbutton control module (N22), the fresh air/recirculated air flap actuator motor (M16/21) and the fresh air/recirculated air flap (1) close the fresh-air duct, while simultaneously opening the recirculation duct. Air is drawn by the blower motor (A32m1) from the vehicle interior into the automatic air-conditioning box.







Recirculated air closed-loop operation
When in automatic mode the fresh air/recirculated air flap (1) can be regulated. Regulation depends on the interior air, and ambient-air temperature in the 25 % - 80 % range.







From recirculated air to fresh-air mode
^ after 30 minutes with outside temperature above approx. 7 °C,
^ after 5 minutes with outside temperature below approx. 7 °C,
^ after 5 minutes if (AC OFF) illuminated.

From recirculated air to fresh-air
^ The AAC multifunction sensor (B31/1) can be used to automatically switch over to recirculation mode when the carbon monoxide (CO) or nitrogen oxide levels (NOX) in the ambient air have increased. This pollutant-controlled recirculation mode is not possible where is AC OFF illuminated or the ambient temperature is lower than 5 °C.
