Water Pump: Service and Repair
Remove, Install Coolant Pump
Bolt Assignment Of Coolant Pump:
DANGER:
- Risk of injury to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolant spray Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant.
- Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 degrees C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage bottles.
- Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and eye protection.
1 Drain coolant at radiator
CAUTION: See notes on coolant.
2 Remove front engine compartment paneling
3 Remove poly-V-belt of supercharger
4 Remove poly-V-belt (4).
5 Unscrew bolts of belt pulley (1) of coolant pump (3)
NOTE: Installation: Tighten bolts of belt pulley (1) fully.
6 Take off belt pulley of coolant pump (2)
NOTE: Installation: Screw in bolts only by hand, do not tighten.
7 Remove cap of guide pulley of compressor poly V-belt.
CAUTION: Carefully lever off cap with a slotted screwdriver in order to avoid damaging the guide pulley.
8 Unscrew bolt of guide pulley of compressor poly-V-belt
9 Take off guide pulley of compressor poly-V-belt
10 Unscrew bolts of tensioning pulley of compressor poly-V-belt
NOTE:
- Installation: On a new timing case cover the threads for fastening the tensioning device compressor are not pre-tapped.
- For this reason on a new timing case cover, new self-tapping screws have to be used for fastening.
- If the timing case cover has not been replaced, observe torque on pre-tapped threads.
11 Take off tensioning pulley of compressor poly-V-belt (5)
12 Disconnect coolant hose (6) and coolant hose (7)
CAUTION: Check condition of coolant hoses and hose clamps. Install new parts if necessary in order to avoid a loss of coolant.
13 Slacken bolt M10x110 (4g) of alternator
NOTE:
- Installation: On a new timing case cover the threads for fastening the alternator are not pre-tapped.
- For this reason on a new timing case cover, new self-tapping screws have to be used for fastening.
- If the timing case cover has not been replaced, observe torque on pre-tapped threads.
14 Unbolt coolant pump (3) at timing case cover and remove
CAUTION: See notes on application of sealant to coolant pump housing.

- Installation: On a new timing case cover the threads for fastening the coolant pump are not pre-tapped.
- For this reason on a new timing case cover, new self-tapping screws have to be used for fastening.
- If the timing case cover has not been replaced, observe torque on pre-tapped threads.
15 Install in the reverse order
16 Inspect cooling system for leaks.
