Removal and Replacement
Remove/Install Brake Shoes Of Parking Brake
- 230.479 with CODE (P99) Special model "AMG Black Series"

Remove/Install
DANGER:
- Risk of injury from trapping or crushing body parts, risk of injury to skin and eyes due to brake fluid spraying out at high pressure when working on the SBC brake system
- Deactivate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS.
- Lethal injuries are possible if vehicle slips off of lifting platform
- Align vehicle between the columns of the hydraulic hoist and position the four support plates below the hoist support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
CAUTION: See notes on repairs to brake system
1 Deactivate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS
- Model 230
2 Raise the vehicle with the lifting platform until the wheels are clear of the ground
3 Remove rear wheels.
4 Remove brake disks on rear axle
5.1 Pre-tension automatic cable slack adjuster
5.2 Release cable slack adjuster

6 Detach lower retracting spring (111) using removal and installation tool (040).
CAUTION: Installation: Ensure that the retracting spring (111) is seated correctly.
7 Remove retaining spring (107) using installation tool (041).
CAUTION: Installation: Ensure that the retaining spring (107) is seated correctly.
8 Remove brake shoes (103) over rear axle shaft flange (68)
NOTE:
- If the brake shoes (103) are scorched or the faces of the brake disks are damaged, the brake shoes (103), retracting springs (111, 112), retaining springs (107) and brake disks must be replaced.
- Installation: Turn back adjusting mechanism (105) and insert into both brake shoes (103) such that the adjusting wheel (c) points in the direction of travel.
9 Detach upper retracting spring (112).
CAUTION: Installation: Ensure that the retracting spring (112) is seated correctly. Coat thread of thrust piece (104) and cylindrical part of adjusting wheel (c) with MB long-term grease.
10 Remove expanding lock (109)
CAUTION: Installation: Coat all bearing and sliding surfaces on the expanding lock (109) with MB long-term grease.
Inspecting
11 Inspect cap (110).

NOTE: Ensure cap (110) is seated firmly and inspect for score marks and deformation, replace if necessary, notes on installing the cap (110) on the brake stator
12 Install in the reverse order
13 Activate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS.
- Model 230
14 Relieve load on automatic slack adjuster.
15 Check version of pedal assembly
16 Adjust parking brake
