Brakes - Noises When Releasing Brake Pedal

Pressure Reduction Noise When Releasing Brake Pedal

If you encounter instances in Model 230 of noises exclusively when releasing the brake pedal, perform the following procedure. Other noise associated with brake pedal actuation cannot be eliminated with this procedure.

Note:
The noises associated with brake pedal release occur within the hydraulic unit, however the noises are subjectively perceived from the right rear of the vehicle.

Note:
There is no reason to remove the SBC hydraulic unit in order to replace the mounting bracket.

1) Open the vehicle's hood and then globally lock the vehicle (driver and passenger doors).

Note:
Leave the vehicle locked for the entire time that work is commencing. Caution should be observed while working on vehicle so that the alarm is not activated.

2) Remove the engine's right side air inlet tube.

3) Remove the vent tube from the cooling system's expansion tank.





4) Disconnect the SBC hydraulic lines from the retaining mounts (Figure 1).

5) Remove the two electrical cable straps at the SBC bracket (Figure 2).

Note:
If the cable straps become damaged during removal, replace with new cable straps, part no. 000 995 52 44.

6) Disconnect the SBC electrical connector.

7) Disconnect the SBC hydraulic unit from the rubber body mounts by slowing pulling upwards.

8) Carefully raise the SBC hydraulic unit, in order to gain access to the bracket retaining bolt.

Caution!
Caution is required when moving the SBC hydraulic unit in order not to kink or damage the hydraulic lines.

9) Unbolt and remove the SBC mounting bracket from the SBC hydraulic unit.

Note:
There is no reason to remove the SBC hydraulic unit in order to replace the mounting bracket.





10) Install the shorter side of the new stud into the SBC hydraulic unit, and tighten to 12 Nm (Figure 3).

11) Install new angled SBC mounting bracket onto stud and hydraulic unit.





12) Install M1O nut onto stud extending from the SBC mounting bracket and tighten to 12 Nm (Figure 4).

13) Insert the SBC mounting bracket into the rubber body mounts.

14) Connect the SBC electrical connector.

15) Install the electrical cable straps onto the SBC bracket.

16) Connect the SBC hydraulic lines to the retaining mounts.

17) Connect the vent tube from the cooling system's expansion tank.

18) Connect the engine's right side air inlet tube.

19) Unlock the vehicle and connect Star Diagnosis.

20) Using Star Diagnosis clear DTCs.

21) Check coolant level, and refill if necessary. Refer to WIS document AH20.00-P-1142-01V
