Operating instruction
A call is accepted or rejected via:
- Buttons on the mobile phone
- Telephone buttons or keypad on COMAND operating, display and controller unit
- Multifunction steering wheel button group
- Voice control on the VCS [SBS] (acceptance only), with code (512) COMAND APS including DVD changer
Function sequence, call signal
The mobile phone receives a call signal in the following way:
- Telephone antenna (A2/22)
- Direct line
- Frequency switchover control unit (N96), with code 389 Mobile phone preinstallation with universal interface, USA/ Canada and with code (359) TELE AID emergency call system, and direct line
- Cradle
Information about the caller is displayed on the mobile phone's screen. The display on the mobile phone's screen is forwarded internally. The call signal is forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the following route at the same time:
- Cradle
- Bluetooth module
- Bluetooth antenna (A2/91)
- Direct line
For vehicles with code (810) Sound system the COMAND operating, display and controller unit transmits the call tone to the sound system amplifier (N40/3) via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST). From there, the ring tone is transmitted via direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left door speaker group (H4/1)
- Right door speaker group (H4/2)
- Left rear speaker (H4/7)
- Right rear speaker (H4/8)
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
- Subwoofer speaker (H4/29)
The audio signal for the subwoofer speaker is routed by the sound system amplifier via discrete lines to the subwoofer amplifier (N40/9) and from there, via discrete lines to the subwoofer speaker.
At the same time, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit mutes the currently active audio source (e.g. during radio operation). This takes place internally in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.
The call identification is indicated by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit on the display of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.
Additionally, the display of the caller identification is generated via interior CAN in the instrument cluster (A1).
On vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the ring tone is transmitted from the COMAND operating, display and controller unit to the following speakers via direct lines:
- Left door speaker group
- Right door speaker group
- Left rear speaker
- Right rear speaker
With basic telephony, the mobile phone receives the call signal via the mobile phone antenna. Then the call signal is forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the following route:
- Mobile phone antenna
- Bluetooth antenna
- Direct line
Function sequence, accept call via mobile phone buttons
Pressing the "Accept call" button on the mobile phone serves to accept the call in hands-free mode. The control signals from the buttons on the mobile phone are processed internally.
Function sequence, accept call via telephone buttons or keypad on COMAND operating, display and controller unit
The call signal causes the caller ID to appear on the display of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. The call can be accepted in hands-free mode by pressing the "Accept telephone call" button on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit or selecting the "Accept" function using the COMAND operating, display and controller unit keypad.
The control signals from the buttons on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit are processed internally.
Function sequence, accept call via multifunction steering wheel button groups
The call is accepted in hands-free mode by pressing the accept/ terminate phone call button (S111s3) in the corresponding subfield. The control signal from the accept and terminate telephone call button is forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the following components:
- Direct line
- Steering column tube module (N80)
- Interior CAN
Function sequence, accept call via VCS, with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer
The voice control of the VCS [SBS] is activated by pressing the VCS [SBS] switch (S93/2) on the steering column tube module. The control signal of the VCS [SBS] switch is forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the following components:
- Direct line
- Steering column tube module
- Interior CAN
A signal tone is emitted after the voice control system has been activated. On vehicles with code (810) Sound system, the signal tone is transmitted by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit to the sound system amplifier via the MOST. From there, the signal tone is transmitted via direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left door speaker group
- Right door speaker group
- Left rear speaker
- Right rear speaker
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill)
- Subwoofer speaker
The audio signal for the subwoofer speaker is routed by the sound system amplifier via direct lines to the subwoofer amplifier and from there, via direct lines to the subwoofer speaker.
The call is only accepted with the corresponding voice command. The voice commands are received by the hands-free system microphone (B25) and transferred to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via a direct line.
The individual voice commands are listed in the "Linguatronic operator's manual".
On vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the signal tone is transmitted from the COMAND operating, display and controller unit to the following speakers via direct lines:
- Left door speaker group
- Right door speaker group
- Left rear speaker
- Right rear speaker
Function sequence, telephone call in hands-free mode
After accepting the call, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit receives or transmits the mobile phone signals and mobile phone data via the following route:
- Telephone antenna
- Direct line
- Frequency switchover control unit, with code 389 Mobile phone preinstallation with universal interface, USA/Canada and with code (359) TELE AID emergency call system, and direct line
- Cradle
- Bluetooth module
- Bluetooth antenna
- Direct line
The voice input in hands-free mode (except "Private Mode") is received by the hands-free system microphone and transferred to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via a direct line.
On vehicles with code (810) Sound system, the voice output (except "Private Mode") is transmitted by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit to the sound system amplifier via the MOST. From there, the voice output is transmitted via direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left door speaker group
- Right door speaker group
- Left rear speaker
- Right rear speaker
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill)
- Subwoofer speaker
The audio signal for the subwoofer speaker is routed by the sound system amplifier via direct lines to the subwoofer amplifier and from there, via direct lines to the subwoofer speaker.
On vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the signal tone is transmitted from the COMAND operating, display and controller unit to the following speakers via direct lines:
- Left door speaker group
- Right door speaker group
- Left rear speaker
- Right rear speaker
With basic telephony, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit receives or transmits the mobile phone signals and data via the following route:
- Mobile phone antenna
- Bluetooth antenna
- Direct line
In general, the telephone connection is established in hands- free mode for basic telephony and for comfort telephony after accepting the call.
With comfort telephony, if the mobile phone is removed from the cradle in hands-free mode after establishing a telephone connection, and therefore disconnected from the COMAND operating, display and controller unit, the telephone call then takes place in "Private Mode".
With comfort telephony, if the mobile phone is inserted into the cradle again during an ongoing phone call, the phone call is conducted again in handsfree mode.
Function sequence, reject call via mobile phone buttons
Pressing the "End" button on the mobile phone rejects the call. The control signals from the buttons on the mobile phone are processed internally.
Function sequence, reject call via telephone buttons or keypad on COMAND operating, display and controller unit
The call is rejected by pressing the "End" button on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit or activating the "END" function in the "ComTEL/Telephone" menu item. The control signals from the telephone buttons on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit are processed internally.
Function sequence, reject call via multifunction steering wheel button groups
Pressing the accept/terminate phone call button in the corresponding subfield rejects the call. The control signal from the accept and terminate telephone call button is forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the following components:
- Direct line
- Steering column tube module
- Interior CAN
